Looks like the S-1 is working pretty good. Are you preping for the next Alone Show auditions? It would be awesome if you were on it. I think they need to add a more international flavor to the show and not have just contestants from N. America.

We've always poked about ten holes in a can of cheap dog food and used that for bait. It gives off a very good scent trail, and I've pulled up traps that were so full I couldn't lift them. Btw: you might have better luck if you Face the opening down stream, fish follow the scent trail upstream.. Love the channel.

Good job Lilly. Fish traps, like snares are a hit&miss proposition and so you need a number of traps just as you need a number of snares to better the odds. The nice thing about Fish traps is they are easily set, reusable and you can build permanent traps into a lake, stream bed, river or shoreline.

Please do a follow up video if you catch fish using this method. It is a great method for those of us who don't like to sit around with a fishing pole in our hands, but like to catch fish. Around where I live, poke poling is the instant method, but needs two people. I actually don't think using a trap here would be legal but in a survival situation, anything goes. Good to see you back in action.

I think turning the entrance cone of the fish trap to face down stream will make it easier for the fish to enter. They will be following the scent trail in the water and will enter the entrance cone as they follow the scent trail. That is the method I have always used in the past. seemed to work then.

Hi, Lilly. I enjoy your videos very much. I subscribed to your channel a couple weeks ago. The other stick funnel fish traps that I have seen, which were successful, didn't make the trap so narrow at the bottom. . Some of the angler's had the basket end about 5 to six inches wide with an flat basket weave end cap permanently attached. Also, known of them used bait. The only baited traps I've seen were for crabbing and frogs. Something they didn't do was put the trap so close to rushing swirling water as you did. There traps were close enough to the bank or very near the bank also. They often caught small fish, minnows and worms to use as bait for larger fish. But the bait was visible, not hidden and just leaving a scent in the water. Seems to me that fish are attracted to shapes and flashes for than scent trails in the water. Maybe you can try foil shaped minnows or worms dangling in the trap. Also, if able to, cut the shapes out of your used food cans. Possibly make hook out of strips of used cans.. Just a thougt. I'm so sorry your traps didn't work out. Hopefully, you'll have better luck with your trap in future. God bless you. Have a great year ahead. Hugs, Linda Lee

Lilly; for some good bait...try using a small crawfish..claws removed. Works great! Also try taking a short piece of nylon stocking, put bait in center , tye the nylon above bait; roll material down over bait ; add string on and hang in the water....for catching crawfish! love your videos and comments;keep on truckin!

Lily you need to put some sort of barrier to guide the fish to the opening! you can use 3 sticks on each side stuck in the mud with several long sticks lashed to the sticks . You can use a couple of bigger rocks making the same thing ,something must funnel the fish to the opening! good job on making the trap though!

"Fish first" - a useful survival doctrine. The fish net takes 5 hours to make then is a "passive" asset. That is it is working while you are off doing other things. For long term survival, or to broaden hiked in food, it looks quite handy.

That's why it's called trapping and not fishing. I've caught lots of fish and crabs in traps just like that on the beaches of NE Brazil in my youth. If those crayfish were in season, probably some tainted meat would do the trick as bait. Thanks for the great video and it's good to see your arm healed well.

Lilly, I use a one-stroke method of cutting saplings, etc. I bend the sapling down toward the ground with my left hand as far as I can so that I am looking at the top of the "U" that is under tension. With my knife in my right hand I hold the knife parallel with the ground about a foot above the "U". Then I hit the "U" with the knife with a sharp blow. I pretend that I am driving the knife clean through the sapling. As the sapling is cut the tension is released and snaps the sapling free.

Hi Lilly, my husband is a bush craft master. He says you made a great fish trap. However, having been trapping fish most of his life he says you need to put the entrance down stream. The odor of the bait flows downstream and lures the fish to come for the bait. Fish will not swim up stream and then back down stream to get the bait. I know it seems logical to put the wide end upstream but he has been doing this type of trapping since he was about 10. Also he suggest hanging the bait in the trap and using rotten meat, that helps the sent spread in the water better. While he may be wise in bush lore I am afraid his internet skills are very limited LOL Give it a try and see if this helps.
