I just made two of the burp cloths using your pattern and video instructions. Thank you for providing them. I did have a problem when I tried to "quilt" the first burp cloth. The fabric shifted after doing a couple of the crisscrosses, so I stopped and am going to tear the threads out. I am going to leave them unquilted. They have cute little bumblebees on them for the new BaBee. [In hindsite perhaps I should used a different pressure foot; I will do that the next time.]

First of all, LOVE this pattern, as I do all the others. You mentioned at the beginning of the video that you could use fat quarters. HOW would we do that? Can't quite picture it in my head, but have a lot of great fat quarters which are flannel, IN baby prints, so it would be perfect. Could you explain how to do that? Thanks in advance!

I have a serger machine... would using it, cut down on the necessity of trimming the edges prior to quilting and top-stitching the edge?
@ShabbyFabrics
@ShabbyFabrics 5 жыл бұрын
We trim around the edge to reduce a bit of the bulk when we turn the project through. So if you use a serger, maybe just use a smaller seam allowance so you don't have bunch of bulk. - Morgan

When quilting...back stitch each end of the grid or will the 1/8 inch around the cloth hold the stitches? Also, how to launder before gifting?
@ShabbyFabrics
@ShabbyFabrics 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Georgette! You don't need to back stitch when quilting, especially if top stitching around the edges to finish. You can prewash the fabrics before or after or both. You can run it through the laundry as you would with anything since it will likely be laundered quite a bit with use. Thank you for watching! Please let us know if you have any other questions! - Sophie

I love this. I have a question. Do you wash your flannel before making this burp cloth? Thanks.
@SuzetteG316
@SuzetteG316 5 жыл бұрын
Personally, I do wash the flannel first to shrink it IF I am using fusible fleece (which is polyester and does not shrink). This way all fabrics (front, middle and back) are at their "smallest size" before I begin the project and won't shrink disproportionately later on as they would if I did not pre-wash (which in reality is pre-shrinking in this case). All the best!

Do you sew a quarter inch inside the black line on pattern or cut fabric a quarter inch outside the black line on the pattern?
@ShabbyFabrics
@ShabbyFabrics Жыл бұрын
Jen cuts the fabrics on the black line, and then sews with a 1/4 in seam allowance. Hope this helps! -Kristen

Question, do you fuse prior to quilting or quilt first, then fuse?
@ShabbyFabrics
@ShabbyFabrics 11 ай бұрын
Hi Christiane - You'd fuse the one side of the fleece to the fusible side prior to stitching your layers together, as Jen references in time stamp 1:40. Hope this helps! -Michelle

One more question, is the fusible glue a threat to baby’s health or am I overthinking?
@ShabbyFabrics
@ShabbyFabrics 11 ай бұрын
@@christianeroberts1914 I haven't heard of any immediate reactions to the fusible interfacing, but keep in mind that there will be some type of chemical(s) in the glue of the fusible. However, please balance this with the fact that we posted this project over 6 years ago and have not received any negative feedback regarding any reactions. If you subscribe to a chemical-free lifestyle, you may find it best to eliminate the fusible layer in this project. Hope this helps! -Michelle

Hi Mary Ann! We have heard of this as well and did our own testing with no return of marks. It may depend on the color and quality of fabric used; however, we have not had any problems with it on any of our projects. Let us know if you have any questions! Stay safe and happy sewing! ~Leah
