This video shows how to make a French Tufted Cushion or Mattress.
My husband made me this victorian swing and I knew I wanted a French Tufted Cushion. I decided I would sew my own cushion, with the help of my mom. :) We absolutely love how it turned out. I will say this was one of the hardest projects I have done, however, it was well worth it.

If you make it this French mattress or any other large cushion, when you wrap the foam in silk wrap, you can condense it by sucking the air out with a vacuum hose. It makes it easier to insert into the cushion cover.

Is it tufted of tuffeted - because there is a big difference in the two. One is a real word, the other is your own portmanteau imagining.

How much did all of the material cost? Because I’m trying to do one myself because online prices are so much. Just wanted to know how much to save/if it’s worth it!

The material wasn’t too much. What got me was using a mattress foam topper. That was a little pricy. But you could use something else less expensive to stuff the cushion with. Other than that it really wasn’t too much.

I made one, it cost me 47 and change. That includes all of my discounts at JoAnn fabrics. Plus, I shopped out of the clearance section for my fabric.
