Good Job. Nice Projekt. For those who do not have the ground sheet Material: Use on of those blue IKEA bags. The Material is very strong and the floor is exactly the size you need for the 'inner tub'. Just add some gorilla tape for structure. Done. Nice extra for me: the color matches perfectly with the helinox blue....

I like yours better than the commercial version because it can act as a waterproof tray under my chair. I might make one with a small snapped pocket that can hold my headlamp, lighter, and other camp essentials while sitting around the fire. Thanks for the inspiration

Great video! You deserve more views, and I'll check out your channel after this. Question though: what is a "drop" (?) fro a tarp, as you called it. and how did you have one kicking around for free? Should I buy a certain style tarp just for cutting up?
@ItsGoodintheWoods
@ItsGoodintheWoods 11 ай бұрын
Thanks man. A "drop" is a piece of tarp that is cut out from the original tarp. In this case, it was a scrap piece of tarp that I kept from a project I did a few years ago. I made a hot tent from a tarp, and I kept the scrap pieces because I suspected I could use them for patches on the tent if need be. Came in quite handy for this chair project. This is an awesome DIY project. But, it only makes sense if you have some sort of material laying around so you don't have to buy anything. Thanks for stopping by Ron. I hope you enjoy some of the other content as well.

I wonder if polycro would be strong enough to do this? I have spare of that after making a groundsheet, but no spare tarp.

No harm in trying. Not a bad idea to give it a practice run and see how much you can get out of it. The one I made is over 2 years old now and still going strong! I just returned from an 8 day canoe trip and I was using it the whole week. One of the chair legs finally pushed through a corner on the trip. I slapped on a piece of duct tape and it got me through the trip without fail after that.

@@ItsGoodintheWoods if not I have a 'bag for life' heavy duty bag I can use,a bit like a IKEA bag, not sure it's the right size though. I'll have to wait til the chair arrives to check actual footprint.

I’m thinking I might try to make one, but instead of removing the small squares from the corners, just cut one side and sew it. Do you think it would still need the tape around the rim to be sturdy enough to hold the legs? If so, maybe double the width of the fabric rim and fold it over to beef that up?

The next one I make I will doing a bit different. More along the lines of what you just suggested. With a lighter material.... I wanted to see if the idea would even work at all. So I didn't put too much effort into it. Now I know it works...better than I anticipated. Time to get crafty and make it as good and as light as I possibly can! I'm excited about it! Good luck on your build! I am looking forward to hearing about what you come up with. Feel free to send pictures to my email. Thanks for watching Jon. Have a great weekend

I can't recall if I put in measurements or not. I don't think I did, because I just trace the outline of the footprint directly from the chair onto the tarp. This DIY project is awesome. Makes a huge difference. Mine is still going strong

@ItsGoodintheWoods

That would work. But I am not sure the groundsheet would roll up and grab itself if I made it that way. I think an experiment is in order......I plan to make some out of lighter material. I will make one the way you suggested.

@@ItsGoodintheWoods You could add some velcro maybe for keeping it rolled? I've found dual lock velcro quite nice for a lot of things, it's stronger and both sides are hard plastic instead of the regular hairy stuff that does not like dirt, lint and moisture.

$35 for the helinox ground sheet is pretty cheap haha. Let’s assume people don’t have scrap pieces of tarp laying around because they fucking don’t….sooooooo…..You’re going to spend at least $20 on a 6x8 tarp and then you’re going to ruin it by cutting it and then you’re relying on duct tape to hold it together which won’t fucking last at all so you’ll have to remake or retape all the time. Duct tape gets ruined by moisture and sun exposure. Then you’re adding stress to the tape by sitting on it. Suck it up and spend $30-$35 haha. “Dur I’m someone who thinks they are smart but actually super dumb”. The helinox ground sheet comes with a 5 year warranty too. An extra $10 or so to get a quality, sturdy, and 5 year warrantied product is a fucking no brainer. Skip 1 meal if $10 is sooooo hard to come by for you dude haha.

You have $35 to throw away on something that actually costs a fraction of that at Decathlon (I bet the one for their chair would happily fir the Helinox) and even cheaper if you make it yourself? Cool story bro.

Whereas I smell toxic privilege in your comments.... And no, I can't afford a Helinox, I am using this on a much cheaper and heavier version, cos I don't have hundreds of dollars to spend on a chair.
