What about adding talcom before pouring latex so latex doesn't stick to plaster?

This video takes me back to my college and early post college years. I actually learned this process as a fiberglass tech in the art department of an amusement "theme" park - King's Dominion. Our process was slightly different since the final object (singing mushroom, Scooby Doo, Yogi Bear, giant 6 foot candy apple, what ever) was made of fiberglass and rigid, so the mold itself had to be made in latex. The original was sculpted in clay; the latex was built up in layers, just as you did with the plaster, but then canvas reinforced plaster (like working fiberglass) was laid over the outside of the latex blob. The plaster acted as support for the latex reverse mold when laying up the fiberglass. Curing fiberglass generates quite a bit of heat, so we always sprayed the plaster support interior with vegetable oil to keep it from sticking to the latex. Once the polyester had hardened the latex could be peeled out of the fine detail of the "part". I remember in particular a classic Roman lion's face with stylized hair for his mane. It was a brute to get all the polyester into the intricate detail of the hair and even more brutal to peel the latex from the part once it was cured. If you damaged the latex mold, you could recast it from an existing part or if you were really careful with peeling the latex from the original clay sculpt, you could recast from that.

these videos are great thank you for making them! when I was little my aunt, who was Elmo in sesame street live, took me into a mask shop/ lab in sarasota or sebring florida (not quite sure) they also had foam things and i remember i thought it smelled awful in there but I didnt want to leave. I mention that place so often wishing i could go back and then i thought.... maybe i could try making them since i was so amazed by it and still think about it after all these years! still want to take my kids to see a place like that but maybe they can watch me try to do it until i find one :)
