Hey guys, in today's video, I'm going to be showing you how to create the functionality behind making a secret doorway inside of/behind a bookshelf. There will be an animation of pulling a book back, and then the door opening. You can both open and/or close the door with this mechanic.
Please note that the models used in this video are meant to be temporary placeholder ones so we can get the functionality working. You can swap out the textures and models very easily with the code still working.
The models in the thumbnail are also ones I have made, however won't be giving a way in this video.

Nice Tutorial! You can change the pivot point for each actor in the editor. Select the actor, and click with Alt + Middle Mouse on the axis to change the pivot point. When the actor loses focus, the pivot point will snap back. To save the pivot point, right click the actor, select pivot->set pivot as offset.

@@MattAspland I know this question completely different. Any idea in how to do a clear mirror that isn't expensive?
@MattAspland
@MattAspland 3 жыл бұрын
@@vladaslav You could maybe use cameras as a cheap option. Place a 2d scene capture component (a type of camera) facing out from the mirror, and have the mirror as that texture from the camera. I have a video here on making a CCTV camera, you can use this same process. Hope this helps :) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aZiHma-ZvZ-8h4U.html

Hello I have a problem with rotate system. I am using Blendspace 2d (not blendspace 1d) and controller yaw is off. When I am looking the charact from the front from the anathor side the character isn't turning to your camera view side it is glitching. But I want do same system with last of us. Viz when I am looking the character from any side character should turn to your camera view side slowly and with animation. But not automatically. It should rotate when I press w/a/s/d. Maybe you can make a tutorial about this problem.

I can’t get this to work. It rotated once the very first time I did it but now it doesn’t trigger anything. I did the test mode with the red lines and they hit the book and turn green after they pass through the bookshelf. I have no idea what I did wrong

Hey matt, i have followed your amazing instructions to the letter but for some reason when i click E on the book nothing happens, i have a collision as the linetrace turns green once it comes into contact but it doesnt trigger the book to rotate and open the bookshelf. nothing happens at all in fact. its very odd. any feed back would help.
@Kaylum_Birrell

I have figured it out!!! there was a problem with my bookshelf collsion which was interfering with my actual book, so the bookshelf was blocking the linetrace from hitting the book and triggering the events. thank you for the amazing video

@MattAspland 3 жыл бұрын
@@eddicito Ah okay, have you double checked that your collisions are all good? And that the linetrace is hitting the book? You can see by changing the linetrace "Draw Debug Type" to "Fur Duration" and there should be a line with a red block on the end hitting the book.

in action LineTraceByChannel you must set Draw Debug Type = none
@philipbristow8243
@philipbristow8243 3 жыл бұрын
if you are asking that then you are trying to run before you can crawl but if you want to learn nothing and rely on others to sort your work for you the here is the answer in your line trace by channel set draw debug type to none... and here is something for free you dont need to compile because when you start the map it will auto compile for you...

Matthew, you dont need to compile because when you start the map... it will auto compile for you... maybe you should tell people as many here are trying to run before they can crawl they are relying on you to build there game which is a bad thing because they learn nothing all they learn is how to copy someone elses work... Sorry for being harsh but you know me i always say what is needed.
@MattAspland
@MattAspland 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Phil, I sometimes use this too, but always tend to compile anyway for good practise, just in case something is broken I'm already in the code. But it is definitely good to know, and like I say, I use it too. So, I'll mention it in future videos.
