Parts needed: Hitch 2 1 1/8 u-bolts 2 spring clips 2 3/4 inch galvanized caps 2 inch 3/4 inch galvanized nipple 2 3/4 inch galvanized couplings 3/4 inch galvanized pipe - Length dictated by the vehicle height, you want the flag to fly approx 3-5 inches past the roof line of the vehicle. Flag

Glad to see NY still has people like you. We do definitely do things differently in TX. But, I never thought about that setup before. Planning this in the very near future. What pole length would you recommend for a 4x6 to keep it a good way off the ground. It’s going on a suv as well

Really good design but the U bolts keep coming loose and the flag falls. Some thread locker helped but still wouldn't wanna fly it too long on the highway.

I ran mine with the u bolts for awhile with no issues. Tighten it up so that the flat stock of the u bolt bends around the pole and locks the carabiner in place or better yet use the eye bolt so it stays locked in for sure. Glad to help brother.

So I built this similar setup and my flag will not fly.... it just rubs up against the back window. I tried different flags and they all do the same thing... do you have that problem with yours?

It all depends on the height of the truck or suv. You want the flag to fly at least 5-10 inches higher than your vehicle and you’d be good to go. I had the same issue till I raised it up.

I have a wk2 jeep as well and I’m wanting to drive it at 75 with the flag. You mentioned it wraps around the pole due to the way the airflow is. Have you found a way to prevent it from wrapping at high speed

Absolutely brother. I’ve driven it over 100 miles flying strong. Make sure you get a well made flag. Cheaper flags could start to fray. Let me know how you make out.

I’m pretty sure once you take the ball out the hitch the opening will be the same. If not use a reducer on the lower half of the pole brother.

Just like a regular tow setup. Slides into the hitch and you can lock it in with a locking hitch pin or regular pin brother.

Instead of having just one nipple going up from the bottom you’ll need t fittings to make room for three risers instead of a solid one. It will work just hard to explain. As long as it is slightly taller than the roof of the truck. I went with a 5 foot and had to add a 12 inch extension.

@@freddyj5845 go with the 5 foot and get a 8 or 10 extension just to make sure it clears the roof by a couple inches. That makes the flag fly straight back and not wrap itself up from the draft. I had it flowing backward till I got it the correct height.

Make sure it sits a little bit higher than the vehicle you have it flying behind. It gets tangled up at lights sometimes but normally it will untangle when you drive. Glad you like it brother. Fly that flag with pride my friend.
