Hi Joie, #1: You are one of the very few I have seen that somehow manage to respond to all of your many comments on all of your videos & I feel that effort on your part is absolutely amazing & must require so much of your time & effort & devotion, & passion not only for papers & JJ, but for reaching out & interacting with all of your subscribers! That quality is awesome on your part, but I feel rather guilty adding to your workload by commenting! #2: Great tutorial, as usual! And love how you create beautiful journals with what we usually already have. #3: re: your ? about how we feel when we tear out a focal image: I get hung up by feeling I must first scan the image for my own future use, then photocopy it so the original can be kept! Ugh! This thinking results in piles of images to scan & pieces not completed until the focal image can be processed! And excess clutter! Which I do not want! #3 re: I hopped over to Meg, told her you sent us, & subbed. Thank you Joie for everything! I am using all of your techniques & love love them!

As you'd expect, I read every word 😁 Don't feel guilty... paper has been my passion all my life. 💜 I guess there may come a point when personal responses are impractical, but I think you can see that engagement with subscribers and viewers is genuinely incredibly important to me. Since you asked, I use an awl to make the holes and use three hole pamphlet stitch to sew in signatures. I tend to do four signatures sewn in to a hard cover, sometimes using secret binding and other times sewing into the spine with visible stitches.

I love your journals best of all. Every time I watch, I go to my art room thinking I will just go ahead and do what you do! I usually tie off on the inside, but prefer the outside. I was thinking it would be nice to add beads or a tassel there. Your pages are stunning as always!!! ❤️💙💜💚

Hello! :) I love listening to you explaining what you are doing and why. Such a lovely voice! I use an awl to poke holes, in one sweep through the signature and the cover. I use a 5 hole stitch, going zig zag. When I have lots of small papers I would consider a 7 or 9 hole stitch.

My stitching is in a figure 8 but I start in the middle and then I can choose to tied them on the outside and add dangly beads or on the inside where no one notices the knot. I love your videos. Thanks for sharing.

That is exactly how I bind mine. It leaves room to add a tassel or beads or whatever at the top so it doesn't interfere with doing things inside that require a flat surface. The lumpy stuff can be pulled to the top without that bump underneath. That lily of the valley image is so beautiful!

Lovely video, you have some gorgeous books. I cheat with binding mine, I use elastic cord wound round the spine 3 times, so three signatures. This allows me to take out pages to work on easily, especially as I chuck paint around a bit! Maybe not the right thing to do but it works for me 😊 xx

joie de fi CF Tunnicliffe is well known especially for his natural history and specifically bird drawings and paintings. The book “Tarka the otter was illustrated by him as were many of the children’s Ladybird books. I don’t come across too many other Tunnicliffe’s so I take notice when I do! I do really enjoy your presentation style, it is very pleasing❤️

Really love the books you used esp the bird one (I wrote that before you asked for our opinion) See I buy those books , then don't dare to "rip" out a page. I worked in the library at University, lol. Q: Do you ever just copy the pages and get the same 'feel' and colors as the original? How? What paper?

Hi there! That bird book...it will be difficult to rip it up. It took me a year really, to freely rip a page from that Book of Flowers. I actually don't copy anything. I feel that it's the book paper as well as the pictures, and text, and print production that makes a page. So I appreciate the glory of a book, and when it's gone I appreciate the beauty of the next book. 😁 I know entirely where you are coming from 👍🏻 Hope to see you here again soon! Joie 💜🌿

I think I use the same figure 8, but I end up with the ends in the center rather than on the outside. As always, a very helpful and appealing video.

Lorraine, it's so good to meet you! Welcome 🥰 I do understand the book tearing issue....I'm split between using it like this and preserving it forever....so to help I sourced a second copy. I will always have one intact. Does that make any sense? Feel free to browse around...and I've got a new video out tomorrow evening. Making a pocket folder, using up old book pages and scraps. Thanks for this great tutorial and I thoroughly enjoyed the whole hop, albeit as a lurker! 😉. Your videos have inspired me to make my very first junk journal and I even tried to roughly imitate the papers you used! I figured that you would be using some appropriately themed pages for the #JunkJournalJuly prompts so I copied from the 'master'. ☺️ My post is on Instagram (same name) and I plan to keep up with all the daily prompts. Joie, you did this video 11 months ago, and I just discovered you recently. I thoroughly enjoy your tutorials. During this video you use a strip of antique paper and the name Rea is at the top; it’s from Vicksburg, MS. My maiden name is Ray, which used to be spelled Rea in my ancestors. Part of my Rea family moved west from Alabama, staying in Mississippi and some going on to Evergreen, LA. I was very excited to see that paper! Where did you get it?

Hi Laurie, how interesting is that!! I had a look at the cover of the Journal, at the piece of vintage paper. I can see the word "Rae" in front of me. Would you believe it, it's actually a page from a collection of papers from K and Co. 😁 Does that help at all? I'm fascinated by genealogy and ancestry.... I'm back to 1650 in my direct family line. Hello Celia, the corner rounder (which is now some 10 years old!!) is an "x cut" brand. I wonder what type you use? I don't have one of those big chompers, so I can't compare. Maybe one day, although this is nice and light. I bought it second hand on e-bay a long time ago. Joie xx

joie de fi Mine was actually a freebie, or add-on, with my all in one laminator/paper trimmer. I looked at a review of others here on KZfaq and it seems that a lot of brands are hit and miss as far as getting a perfect rounded corner each time, regardless of the brand, price or robustness, so if you are happy with yours don’t be in a rush to replace it!!

I learned to “sew” it together by putting the string through the middle hole from the inside, go in the top hole from the outside, go back through the middle hole from the inside again and then go through the bottom hole on the outside to the inside, then tie it off.
