I've been thinking of making things with kydex. It's basically maintenance free and impervious to moisture. Humidity is a big problem in Florida. And as you mentioned, in the long run, it's probably cheaper to make your own if you want different types for different purposes, different carry options or want to create a combination carrier like knife, sharpening stone, and magnesium bar. Even soft canvas holsters can cost a lot when trying to outfit multiple pistols or to have several for just one pistol. I appreciate the tip on using the inexpensive rivet tool. Those little presses are pricey, but you keep it easy and low cost.

Agreed, this makes sense if you wanna make a holster for multiple different pistols, or for a newer pistol that is not supported yet, or for a pistol that no one makes a light ready holster for. But for just a one off, the raw materials will cost most people 2x what a holster will.

Hey man, Great video. I got into making my own holsters as well. Thought I might share something that I did when I first started. I used to put the good side of the kydex on the toaster oven rack and it made those burn lines that I noticed on yours as well. Now I started putting the smooth/shiny side down since it’s not gonna show. It makes the texture side look way better. Keep it up and Thanks again for the video.

Guns are like potato chips, you can't have just one. Plus if you have range buddies or are friends with multiple gun enthusiasts you could make them a holster for birthday gifts or christmas presents. Some items are mandatory and others can be subbed for smaller and easier things to keep, just means more effort at some steps.

Great video. I am looking to make one to hold my G40 with a suppressor attached for hunting. The can is 1.5” diameter and am hoping the trigger guard area will act as the retention point. Was thinking of leaving extra Kydex at the top to fold backwards and rivet to the backside to make a belt loop like the they made western loop holsters, just tighter. Also thought of maybe using bull hide as the backside with kydex on the front-the press would not have to be so big. I really need another good look at that press

I have a video on just the press can’t get the link for you right now but it is in my kydex playlist on my channel. And I don’t see any reason that wouldn’t work for a belt loop you will probably have to bend that part last just using a heat gun
