I am enjoying a Czech version of the Last Word called Larkwood, using Becherovka herbal liqueur instead of Chartreuse. Becherovka is a yellowish transparent liqueur, with bold ginger and gentian flavours. It's excellent (of course with the lemon juice toned down to 5 ml and gin toned up to 40 ml)!

It’s been almost 2 years since you posted this video and I told myself several months ago after I started watching your channel that I would eventually buy a bottle of green chartreuse and make the famous last word and when I did I would rewatch this video and sip it with the one and only Anders & Az. So cheers to an amazing video and yet another beautiful cocktail! Thank you 🖤

I find that the Botanist is a really good gin for this drink, probably my favorite, because it compliments the Chartreuse's herbaceousness. If you want another good gin alternative, try Roku to really compliment the maraschino.

It was hard to find Green Chartreuse but did. Also tried to find a substitute and ended up grabbing the Dolin veritable genepy which I think is closer to yellow Chartreuse. Definitely liked it better with the substitute but enjoyed the kick of the green chartreuse

This is our favorite cocktail and we use 1 oz per. Then we float Laphroaig (about 1/8 oz) on top which adds a smoky flavor. I have not added the cherry before but will try it. Make a couple right now.

I love watching these videos. Anders is precious, charming, and humble. But I'd never try to make this cocktail at home. Not because I can't; it's childishly simple. But I don't have all of those ingredients at home, and I'd never go out to buy them just to make a cocktail. A cocktail like this is the perfect justification for the existence of cocktail bars with friendly, experienced bartenders. Visit one today.

I used Jagermeister in place of Chartreuse and Plymouth for my gin. Honestly not bad in my opinion. I’m really curious as to what others or even Anders would think of it. Recently I had my first last word at a nice cocktail bar in Boise and really loved the drink. The mouthfeel is not the same with Jager, but the herbal-ness is there.

I have the Luxardo Maraschino Cherries and use only those!! They are so delish and are perfect for cocktails. You use high quality ingredients in your drinks - all the way! I have see YT channels post videos of great drinks mixed but the posters always comment on how the low cost (economic) ingredients taste the same after drinks are mixed. I tend to disagree. It is the same with cooking.

I imagine this drink with all the herbal sweetness would taste great in a tropical/tiki version.... Perhaps over some crushed ice, with mint (to build on that herbal), perhaps a couple of grenadine drops for color... Or a sour version (w/ egg white)... So many options.

The Last Word is maybe the most interesting cocktail I have ever tasted. As you know, there is a big Chartreuse shortage. I go to big box liquor store website, they say Genepy is good substitute and in stock. I go to customer service and no Genepy to be found. The lady asks what for? She says we just got this one bottle of Chartreususe for $75. So I mixed the Last Word, and it was a gin slammer. In my senior years, I don't throw down that much liquor anymore. But we are serving them to guests from Vietnam. And it should be a very interesting conversation piece.

So I found out today that Green Chartreuse is not currently available; at least around here in the Portland area...dang supply chain issues, eh? A locally-made liqueur was recommended, and actually was quite nice. Then I decided to experiment a bit since the 1-1-1-1 ratio is pretty rad to work with and came up with the Örtpirat (Herb Pirate in Swedish, roughly translated). I initially wanted to only swap out the gin with the acricole rum from the Last Word to keep it simple, but I wanted a bit more sweetness without requiring a simple, hence the Swedish Punsch. 3/4oz Rhum Agricole 3/4oz Swedish Punsch 3/4oz Maraschino Liqueur 3/4oz Lemon juice Shaken, Up, cherry on the bottom of a Nick & Nora. Delightful!

I can hardly think of any cocktail made at home as being expensive. Where I live, you’re going to pay $14-16 plus tax and tip for this drink. These three bottles will run you $160. I can make a heck of a lot more than ten of them with that gin, Lucado, and chartreuee. As in, with these three 750ml bottles, with spillage, I can make 30 of them. $5 apiece. Is that math right? Or have I had too many Last Words tonight?
