I built an alcohol stove with an old Daisy pellet can I had laying around in 2017ish. I used some welders' carbon felt instead of fiberglass to absorb the liquid, no spills, some screening from a tea leaf strainer to hold the felt in place. It holds 2 oz. or 60 ml of alcohol and with 1 oz of fuel will burn over 15 minutes. I use a Zen Camps wind screen/burner that works with alcohol or solid fuel and, though not designed that way, have used a small twig fire inside. I like things that can work with multiple options. At 76 years old, I like things that work well rather than being the lightest thing in the world. Function over form as it were.

It's been named the monkey boy stove. I go by the name monkey boy on the bushcraft uk forum, and back in 2006ish I designed this stove to be used in conjunction with the bcb cook set. I wanted to use alcohol in the stove component instead of hexi blocks or fire gels as it's cheaper. Back in 2008 I went to a bushcraft meet in Sussex where I showed my little idea off to everyone at the meet, Neil was one of the guys that I showed it to and he ensured that the credit was due to me on his video. Anyway, a few days after that meet it was posted and shared on the forum by a member called Kepis. Everyone around the country was making them and eventually found its way onto the US forums, it's a bit overwhelming if you ask me. So thats the story of how the monkey boy stove came about. I've been using a Trangia for over a decade now, it's my go to stove. I love the simplicity of your stove. The simpler it is, the less chance it can go wrong. Happy New Year!

good job, i have many types of alkohol stove, one is very similar to yours, but I still claim trangia is the best - sturdy, has simmer ring, made of brass.

I made one with carbon felt so you won't get spillage if knock it over alot safer

I did almost the same thing but I use the welders carbon felt as the filler for the tin. It took several pieces and that depends on the thickness of the felt you get. The felt will lay in the tin so you don't need that screening if you don't want to use it. I like you UCO Candle. Been using one of their brass one's since the early 1970's.

A little stove like this can also use an Esbit as a pot stand.

The loft insulation used needs to be Rockwool which doesn't melt or catch fire. Don't use fibre glass as it will easily melt. Good safety advice, Meths CAN be extinguished by water though. Thanks for posting.

I have a trangia alcohol burner. Do you think i can get away with that and tent pegs in most situations when cooking water ? I do have a windshield
