This channel was a hidden gem to find. Every question I developed while watching was answered step by step in a clear, logical manner. I hit subscribe after the first minute in and look forward to you sharing more clever ideas. Thanx to Blake's for the suggestion to come here. A few thoughts... In North America those drill bits are often called spade bits. Also I'd be tempted to add a drop in fitted bit of pvc pipe to act as a wall between the gravel and the sponge, or maybe silicon in a few inch high acrylic ledge just to hold any gravel back. Or even a lego wall could work or some fitted slate rock etc.

I think if you wanted a planted aquarium with a soil substrate, a great way to do that and use this type of filtration might be too add a short glass wall. The same way people do for a DIY sump, you can silicone a wall slightly taller than your substrate to the floor and walls, then put the sponge behind that.

Please use jetlifter or czech airlift. They are more efficient. That airstones get clogged very easily. Use 1 mm hole on pipes and have fun. Thank you for your video
@TheUrbanFishkeeper
@TheUrbanFishkeeper 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Mustafa, Yes agreed the jetlifter is more efficient and may have a better and stronger flow. I may make a video on the jetlifter as an alternative for people to use. Thanks for the comment, appreciate it.

If you twist the vertical pipe 90 degrees you will avoid the airline tube getting squeezed against the back wall of the tank.

Can you use the powerhead that the tank comes with to power the filter? As in, placing the body of the powerhead in the tank and placing a pipe attached to the powerhead’s inlet through a hole in the sponge to suck water back into the tank?
@TheUrbanFishkeeper
@TheUrbanFishkeeper 2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely Tom, put the powerhead behind the sponge and run the outlet back to the main part of the tank.
@tomm7029
@tomm7029 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheUrbanFishkeeper ah but you can’t as the outlet doesn’t have a round hole that you can attach a hose or pipe to. That’s why I was thinking of placing the pump on the tank side of the foam and sucking the water backwards.

That's brilliant! Love it. I was thinking about how to use 30ppi sponge at it's best and I found it and what's great is that I don't have to use any power head. Just a small piece of advice and I don't mean to sound like an idiot but please try not to touch your face so much. I like the video it helped a ton but wouldn't like to see it much.

Awesome video :) so a question in ur opinion is the 20ppi better Matten filter for smaller species of plecos that are going to be breeding or 30ppi ?
@TheUrbanFishkeeper
@TheUrbanFishkeeper 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Leo, I would take 30 over 20ppi, I always worry that the young fish find their way into the holes of the sponge and get stuck. More likely to happen with 20ppi than 30ppi.

Hi again . I would like to ask a question.I have a tank with 50*50*50 tank . I bought a 50 *50 sponge for it to set up a mat filter. It has 6 mm glass thickness.So it has a 48.4 cm inner part. Is this sponge suitable for this tank. Thank you for the answer. Healthy hobbies
@TheUrbanFishkeeper
@TheUrbanFishkeeper 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Mustafa, that should be fine provided the fit is nice and tight. You may have to use 2 uplifts to keep the sponge rigid. Good to hear from you.

@@TheUrbanFishkeeper sorry bu I couldnt understand what u mean by uplift? Left and right Frame to fit or not. And sorry for the data . Length is 48.8 cm . I dont want to empty the the tank. What else can we do? Have a healthy life without Corona
@TheUrbanFishkeeper
@TheUrbanFishkeeper 3 жыл бұрын
@@unique35m hey bud, it does not give you a lot of tight space, you will only have about 1cm extra on the sponge each side.. it should work though, I would use it. The uplift I was talking about is the jet lift.
@unique35m
@unique35m 3 жыл бұрын
