I'm not currently using matten filters, but when I set up my rack of 20 longs I'm planning on them again.

It is a standard 10 gallon tank, but you can make a matten filter for any size tank.

This is what I do: measure the tank. Cut the foam to slightly larger than the measurements. Then trim as necessary. Remember, you can always trim more off, but you can't put it back on.

Much better to use a small submersible pump in place of air line

I believe it depends on the application. Most of my tanks are fry tanks or just relatively small and the air power is plenty and more efficient. I use air in every tank regardless of other filtration or not. When I convert my wife's planted 55g, I will use a powerhead and still have air.

I wouldn’t say so. If you go up to a 40 mm tube and use an airstone it will transport more than 3000 liter per hour. They will give a lot of water.

I do still use it in a couple of my overstocked tanks. There is a tremendous amount of biological filtration. Most of my tanks are grow out or breeder tanks, and the flow is way too high for fry. Also, shrimp love it.

I've never bought one. This video shows how easy it is to make one yourself. I believe I put a link on the description for the filter material on Amazon. The PVC just pick up at your local hardware store.

I'm going to re-suggest what Dominic said. I have a 75gallon and just ordered one from Ebay, still 2 - 4cm short mind you, but the worst thing to happen is an eyesore.

Swiss Tropicals also provides matten filters, _if_ you're willing to shell some extra money (64USD for the 75gallon).

I've seen the Swiss Tropical videos and they seem like a quality product. However, as I stated, I have never purchased one from anywhere. Therefore, I cannot in good conscience, endorse any manufacturers.
