This easy to make serving tray is a great weekend woodworking project to tackle and makes a fun beginner project as well. No fancy joinery required, a little glue and a little scrap wood and you can complete this project in no time ;)
I made this from some walnut that was given to me by a friend, but it would look good in any wood type. But, when you can make something from walnut, why not? Haha.
I finished this in Fusion Mineral Paint Beeswax and really loved how it turned out. You can grab some to try at my affiliate link here:

i liked the not so perfect spot in the top of the tray. I don't strive on perfection either. Imperfections are found in all the projects and craft that I produce in my shop. It shows that they are hand made. Great tray.

@@WoodshopDiaries Not as much as finishing! I HATE staining, lacquering etc.! Makes me so ill to do a knockout job building a project, only to see it go to crap in the final step!

Thanks for sharing this! I'm getting ready to work on one of these too. I have done plenty of flat trays, but this will be my first one with sides. Do you feel the glue is sufficient without any nailing? I want it to be able to hold heavier objects. Also, LOVE to little hack with "hacking" off the screw heads. :) I have struggled to find fun handles that I can screw in from the top. Thx again!

Awesome to hear! It’s held up fine so far so I’d say the glue is sufficient. But it mostly just sits on the table as decoration and isn’t really “used” very often. If you wanted some extra security, you could use screws or nails as well.

Thanks! It’s to sell so I’d better play it safe with a few brad nails. But I’m definitely going to try that epoxy in the screw hole idea. Brilliant! Keep up the good work! Looking forward to more videos!

Nice work. When the bottom expands you think the miters will come loose?

Walt Of The Earth I’m sure some people will say yes, but I’ve built so many things that theoretically should have fallen apart and have held up for several years just fine. So I’m not concerned. If they do, I can fix it. No big deal. 👍

I turned a 2x3 stud into a serving tray, without drawing any plans.
