In this tutorial, which is Part 1.1 (an updated recording for use with Unreal Engine 5.4) of my How To Make A Multiplayer First Person Shooter In Unreal Engine 5 tutorial series, I'll go through some basic project set up, show how to set up a third-person mesh with its own animation blueprint for other players to see, attach a weapon to the mesh, and set up a basic procedural vertical aim offset that is replicated.

FYI for anyone confused why the player only looks up even when looking down. make sure you are subtracting 360 by the Y so move the pins around as well as making sure you put the pitch variable in the outputs in the collapsed node.

Thank you @naenaewd, once I realized what you were meaning this worked for me.. for other newer UE people like me, to clarify, with math nodes, it matters what's on the top pin and what's on the bottom for any math expression where that matters ie.. subtraction, division. for this in the ABP_Manny - Caculate Pitch node. you want to make sure the pin coming from the Y (pitch) value is connected to the Bottom pin of the subtraction node and you enter the 360 as the top value, that way the expression is 360 - y, and not y - 360.

To get the UI the same you need to click "Content Drawer" at the bottom left, after that at the right of the search bar in that pop up window it'll say "Dock in Layout" click that and close the pop up window and it'll be exactly how he has it before he adds the 3rd person content pack.

As for the gun floating about (discussed around the 8 minute and 24 second mark) I believe it may be attached to the hand socket of the FPS Arms Mesh which seems to use the OnlyOwnerCanSee Bool.

Yeah and because the aiming variable isn't replicated they're still playing the unarmed anims.

Loved the 18:50 version of your full video man, ( I only got so far into it, I'm sure I'll love the rest ) I'm using UE 5.4 and already my Manny is stuck in the 'A' pose with some error of it saying something about out-dated animations or some doohickeymabob. It's honestly awesome as UE gets new patches and updates , you and few other heroes are creating videos to help new coders get the gist of things, much appreciated.

Just FYI for anyone who ends up running into the issue "Not enough login credentials to launch all PIE instances, change editor settings" The way I was able to fix is is below. Click "Edit" at the top of the editor and select "Editor Preferences" In the search bar type "Credentials" Under Level Editor - Play Credentials>Credentials to the right click the "+" twice to add two new array elements. Expand Index [0] and enter the following: User ID: Player1 Password: password - (or really whatever you like) Type: Dev for Index[1] repeat the above but under Type I entered test instead of Dev. Not sure if this is the correct way to "fix" this but it worked for me.

I've done made a goof. For some reason when the player picks up the gun the animation plays correctly, but the gun is on the floor at a 90 degree angle. I'm sure its just some dumb thing I messed up coming from the old video and accidentally skipped.

I recommend switching to the Mover 2.0 (Character motion component) movement system. It provides better integration with current systems and better scalability (and, ye! That's opening support for all classes (from pawn - to your custom))

I was wondering if you knew a fix for this issue since I rewatched your video 3 times now but cant seem to find it, Anytime I pickup the weapon on teh stage, the weapon stats floating on the ground and never in my hands.

This is awesome. Completely new to UE. I tried following along your last one and got stuck on the retargeter. The strafe left and right animations weren’t working and I am not very smart but I did figure out on my own to set the target to SK_Manny and that little ah-ha moment made me feel smart albeit a very pedestrian fix. However seeing this released some anxiety and I’m going to try again. Thanks for all your insight!

Hi MizzoFrizzo, thank you for this tutorial. Quick question, how to extend first person character to make it be able to see his own body (legs etc) and shadow? Now we can see only weapon's shadow.

Gotta let you know so people dont get discouraged. You will have to play around with the manny bp since at the end of this video your manny will be in the idle rifle pose with no rifle, as well as look up *weapon pick up* bp videos since the character does not pick up the weapon.

@@PitchforkAcademy ya I had to switch to a certain mannequin to get the correct pose. And for some reason had to delete the fps folder and reinstall the fps mode to have the pick up action work

At 29:55 when you pick up the weapon.... everything works for me except for I cannot see the weapon from first person view. I used an alternate weapon, I did not use the space gun... I can see the character pickup the rifle I am using, but when I am in first person view I cannot see the weapon in my hands... if that makes any sense lol.

Ah, I wasn't using ABP Manny as my animation in my first person character. So that fixed my view in the first person view... but now my rifle is pointing off to the side in first person view.

Very happy with this updated video! However once I got to the looking up and down my character when it looks up looks down on the other screen and when it looks down it looks down. So basically the other characters can’t see me look up

You should revisit the Calculate Pitch section. Sounds like you have the pins on the subract node mixed up...

I’ve followed this tutorial 4 times and for some reason, I either start off using the aim animation when holding no gun, or I get the gun and don’t hold the gun animation

When picking up a weapon, i can't seem to get them to make the aim animation. The weapon sits perfectly in the hand, but no pose. Evetrything else works

No way, UE5.4 will never run on your potato machine, lol😂 Min specs are dual AMD EPYC 96 core cpus and no fewer than 4 nvidia tesla gpus, 128 tb of memory, and 12 8tb nvme drives 20 gbit/sec Honey Badger pcie adapters. /s jk

Yeah, don't delete assets associated with the character you're using. True first person uses the third person character...!

hey dood. so iv been following tutorials and trying to learn more about unreal and replication in unreal. but iv hit a huge roadblock. MAKING GUNS ACTUALY WORK. im still in 5.4 and on the fps template. but i cant seem to get actual shooting and spawning projectiles to work. it works perfectly on the host side. but if the other player tries to shoot it doesn't appear. iv been looking for a solution everywhere, but idk i cant get it to work. maybe if i move the shooting logic in the weponBP to the characterBP but that doesn't sound very smart if i want to make different kinds of guns and stuff

@@PitchforkAcademy hey iv just sat down and binged a lot of your content. :) im not used to 2 hour long tutorials but i got thru them. but im still trying to replicate gunplay. iv watched your third-person multiplayer tutorial and other with replication, but it seams that you do everything, in the same blueprint. i want to be able to have multiple guns that behaves different with their unique BP's and logic. since im using the FPS template i wanted to start with the template gun, but i still cant get it to work client side. and if i try implementing the replication custom events like you do and other tutorials do, it either doesn't work or crashes the whole thing or just crashes the client and makes it its own host.

@@PitchforkAcademy Hello i like your video and if its possible, can you make a tutoriel featuring an equip clothes system with metahuman where the player character doesnt start the level naked but like you choose the first costume on the body and that combined with the ability to loot or find other costumes which you can equip and change with the starter outfit outfit, that combined with an inventory UI to change the outfits from different costumes, I understand that my request is too long but it will help many developers so please work on it when you can Thanks in advance.

Why isn't my mannequin changing into the Idle rifle aiming pose in 3rd person when I pickup weapon. This is my third day trying to fix this issue and I'm starting to get heated. I feel like I've watched 10000000 million times. I feel like is has to do with the has rifle condition not being changed to true when I pickup the riflle - I have verified everything I even started over to do this from scratch. Could anyone help me figure out what I'm missing.

@@PitchforkAcademy yeah 5.4, the gun attaches to my hand when I pick it up but the upper body anims don't play. As if has rifle is never being switched to true to trigger the upper body anims. Gonna take a look again today after work hopefully i make some headway

@joshuaallengallagher It's often a simple case of not following along closely enough and missing a thing or two. The video is literally a recording of me just setting it up and it works, so I can assure you that it does work. One thing you could do, though I don't think it would make any difference, is delete all the cast to anim instance stuff at the end of the weapon component logic there.

I actually don't know how to rotate the bones in a smooth way across the server. If I work it out, then yes, but I can't promise.
