That's pretty slick Danny. I never knew about those boxes. About like the Salt boxes my 74 year old Uncle told me about. Said Salt boxes were made of oak and when he was a little kid people would put their meat in them on a layer of salt then cover over with Salt and put the lid back on and cure the meat like that. We've all lost more knowledge than we ever know. Great video Danny. Thanks

I used a Dukes to crack pecans as a child. Momma always wanted the meat in halves for baking. I would sort the nuts according to size before I started so I didn't have to adjust every time.

I use vice grip plyers to crack pecans. I use the screw adjustment to set the jaws so when I close the plyers they just crack the shell. I give it a crack then give the nut a quarter turn then crack it a gain. Usually the shell falls away easily and the meat isn't crushed at all and both sides come out whole. I hold a big bowl of nuts in my lap and let the shells fall back into the bowl and i toss the meats into another bowl. I can shell a big bowl of nuts in just a few minutes. Just another of a thousand uses for vice grip plyers Thanks for all you do.

I got bored one day and decided to make a tableware tray that was similar, but had a handle on the dividing board. I used rough sawed pine that pine borers got into. I planed it to about 3/8” and finger-jointed it. I also used 1/4” bead boards for the bottom. I ended up making several, once my wife spotted it. They ended up being Christmas gifts.

great to see this neat nutcracking tray .that hand held tack thing is a bit different from the tiny tacks and small hammer my dad used for his wood workings. I didn't know the end was best I'd just crack them in the middle. Its only christmas time we get any in shell nuts here .don't see them any other time of year. Unless its already shelled in a bag which I use for my flours .wish we had nut trees near here. Nice you've still got your dads nut cracker trays great idea he had and a memory cabin .

Hey Y'all, Wow that is a very nice nut cracking box. I love the gadget. Does the gadget have a name are they for sale somewhere? I grew up with a pecan tree and a walnut tree in the back yard. You better believe I cracked thousands of pecans every year didn't take long before I could get them out 100% all the time. Mama sold them bagged in the shell, shelled whole and shelled halves. She always split the pecan money with me. To this day I'm 58 years old I eat pecans and or walnuts every day. Of course they were free then. I am sure you know of the good cholesterol you get from these nut. I changed my cholesterol numbers so much my doctor could not believe it was just from eating nuts. I told her God gave us nuts for a reason. I know the truth that is what matters. God bless y'all bye for now
