Campsite security is a critical survival component that I used to overlook. As time progressed, I saw the absolute need for strong perimeter security, whether it's a true SHTF situation or a just a hiking trip to the backcountry.
After choosing a campsite, take a bit of time to patrol and secure the perimeter. It doesn't have to be complicated, it can be simple and easy with a simple deadfall trap or e alarm connected with fishing line or snare wire.
The options abound for tripwire alarms, ranging from air horns, mouse traps and more. Have fun with it, get out in nature, experiment and find what works best for you.
Then kick back and chill, knowing any apex predators strolling into your campsite will trip your alarms, giving you enough time to react to the potential threat.

It is important to use different trip alarms with distinct sounds. This way you know which direction it came from.

Maybe something you can hear and be warned but not whoever trip that alarm. If you know they are coming but they don't know that you know is probably the best. It gives you time to prepare response or exfil if is to many of them.

@@Casper1907 Been looking for something like that, want to be warned or aware someone is coming into our camp, no bears etc here in Oz, no predators here except the human kind and snakes, so want to wake up and be ready, as an alarm will let anyone else in the area know that there is a camp close by, i.e food, water, shelter, maybe women for the perverted.

My favorite alarm is the clip on bells sold for clipping onto fishing poles. They are small and packable for travel. Metal, they are paintable to whatever color you need.

When I used to stay in motels I would stack up pots and pans and bottles in front of the door.. Door opens and clang bang crash, I'm awake. You could do the same with a trip wire and tin cans at a campsite.

Yeah I don't recommend tripwires. Any evasion situation. I recommend glue sticks. You can make them thin as a human hair. Or thick as a fishing line. You can put them all over your campsite. With one glue stick you can make about 50 lines. You got to cut the glue stick into Little triangle pieces and then Mount one end to the branch to the other. Always like the glue stick separately and then melt them onto branches and stretch them to about 5 to 10 ft. Nothing beats it. I could string one up in about 5 minutes 50 perimeter line. And then I'll know if someone's been in my campsite or trailing behind me and I can leave them astray. Practice with a glue gun. It's safer. Only a very experienced tracker would ever be able to notice anything. Good luck on your video

Going backcountry camping in a few weeks and thought I'd check what others are doing in this regard. For the reasonably forest-savvy, skip the intro material and go to 6:00. But after watching thru, I wouldn't use any of the three methods he used. One was overkill, the next two not loud enought to wake me, and im a light sleeper. Instead I would rig a noise-maker right next to my head for mainly when Im sleeping. Fishing line and a bell of some kind, or can full of pebbles as one commenter suggested.
@TheSurvivalOutpost

Great suggestion, I've tried out the can + pebbles option, however in this video I was focused on using natural materials. Maybe there is a rusted can I luck out and find, but usually there is no trash around I can use and I don't pack cans in my gearset

12 gauge perimeter alarms which use blank 12 gauge shells are a great way to secure your camp. These alarms can be converted to use real shotshells by attaching a 3"-4" piece of steel or plastic pipe, however lethal boobytraps are highly illegal and just having a piece of pipe stored with an alarm is illegal - called constructive possession. Also, you might accidentally shoot yourself, your wife, a child, an innocent neighbor, or your dog. It isn't worth the risk of hard time or accidental injury/fatality unless the world has gone totally Mad Max. Prepping is about increasing your chances, not putting yourself at risk. www.americanspecialtyammo.com/Gadgets.html Or you might like army green: www.pyrocreations.com/12-gauge-perimeter-alarm.html

Jj I'm a fifth generation Floridian and have been camping all of my life in Florida & yes misquito and sand gnats in the summer only are fierce.we are somewhat use to them and crop some beauty berry and wax myrtle leaves if you want and put in a little water,be sure to crush and rub the leaves(makes great natural bug repellant )which contains natural deet, just rub on skin.happy camping and stay safe.
