How To Make A Polished Gemstone Bracelet
by Jennifer and Kitty O'Neil
The O'Neil Sisters
Running With Sisters
We love the look of a Polished Gemstone Stretch Bracelet. We sometimes sport a single one or stack a few up. We'll show you how to thread the beads onto the clear elastic two times for added strength and security. We'll show you how to tie a special knot, how to secure the knot with jeweler's glue, and hide the knot as a finishing touch. These bracelets are so popular, we've made them into kits.

How To Make The Polished Gemstone Stretch Bracelet
Tools & Materials
18 White Howlite gemstone beads, 10mm
4 Crystal spacers, 6mm
1 Tree of Life charm, 15mm (with jump ring)
20" Elastic beading cord
Scissors
Masking tape
Tape measure
Clear nail polish or jeweler's glue
Steps
1. Start by folding a small piece of masking tape over the end of the elastic beading cord. Then slide six gemstone beads onto other end of elastic.
2. Next slide a crystal spacer, a bead, a crystal spacer, and a bead onto the elastic.
3. Slide the Tree of Life charm onto the elastic. Then slide a bead, a crystal spacer, a bead, and a crystal spacer onto the elastic, mirroring the pattern on the other side of charm.
4. Slide the remaining beads onto the elastic. Try on the bracelet and add or remove beads to adjust the size.
5. Circle the beaded strand around to form a bracelet shape. Then feed the elastic through the beads a second time. Be sure to keep a 2" tail unbeaded at the masking tape end to use for the knot later.
6. After you have gone through all the beads with the elastic a second time, remove the masking tape. Gently pull the elastic ends to tighten the bracelet and remove any gaps between the beads. Tie the two ends of the elastic together.
7. Make the knot more secure by tying the ends together again. But this time wrap one end around and through a second time. Gently pull the ends tight.
8. Finally, tie the ends together one more time, as in step 6. Gently pull the ends tight to finish the knot.
9. Trim the ends to ¼". Then add a dab of clear nail polish or jeweler's glue to the knot. Slide the adjacent bead over the knot to hide it. Let the glue dry before wearing the bracelet.
To wear the Polished Gemstone Stretch Bracelet, roll it, rather than stretching it, onto your wrist'

@TheONeilSisters
@TheONeilSisters Жыл бұрын
Doubling the cord is good! We go through two times around so if the cord breaks there's a chance the beads will stay on the second loop of cord. A little insurance you could say. Cheers, Jennifer & Kitty

Could you not have double threaded elastic on a needle for example at the start so once through gives the double thread??
@TheONeilSisters
@TheONeilSisters 3 жыл бұрын
Great question! The reason we go through twice is so you have a little safety feature if the elastic breaks. The beads have a better chance of staying on. Does that make sense? Is there a reason why you just don't use stretch string that is 1mm in diameter instead of a double-pass with the o.5mm string?
@chickadddee
@chickadddee Жыл бұрын
I have some questions! Is the elastic cord you used here the same as stretch cord? What size hole is in these beads? What size is the elastic cord? How often do you re string your bracelets like this, or how do you know it's time to re string so you don't lose beads if it breaks or wears out? Thanks for making the video, hope you can answer my questions! 🤞🏼

Hi Dee, Yes this is elastic or stretch beading cord. The holes in our beads are 1mm and the cord is .5mm and we run it through the beads twice. We haven't had to restring them. Going through two times makes them stronger. Here's the how-to on our blog: runningwithsisters.com/gemstone-stretch-bracelet-video-and-kit/ Cheers, Jennifer & Kitty

@TheONeilSisters

I love these tutorials! For 4mm or 6mm beads, what size elastic cord would you recommend?
@TheONeilSisters
@TheONeilSisters 3 жыл бұрын
Great question. The main thing you need to consider is the size of the hole in the beads. Our beads are 10mm and have a 1mm hole so we used .5mm elastic beading cord so the cord will fit through the bead twice. When you buy beads online, sometimes they tell you the hole size like they do here on Fire Mountain Gems: www.firemountaingems.com/itemdetails/h203606gs If you don't know the size of the hole, try using .5mm and see if it fits through the beads two times. Here's the written how-to on our blog: runningwithsisters.com/gemstone-stretch-bracelet-video-and-kit/ Hope that helps! Jennifer & Kitty

Great question! Maybe you could try a thin clear glue that is not water soluble like Super Glue (cyanoacrylate), although we haven't tested it to see if it works with the elastic beading cord. If you do try Super Glue, be very careful! It's awful to get it on your fingers! Alternatively you could try E6000, 100% clear silicone adhesive, or Liquid Nails and apply it with a toothpick. Good luck! Jennifer & Kitty

The beading cord size depends on the hole in the bead. We like to run the elastic beading cord through the beads two times.
