How To Make a Realistic Submarine Ocean Diorama | DAS BOOT "U-96" (VII C) | 1/144 | Revell | Part II

Hello! Welcome to the second part of this project. In the first part, I documented the building-process of my interpretation of Das Boot. I have not paid attention to a hundred percent correctness, but wanted to build a heavily weathered Das boat. This time I made a water base for this model with aluminum foil.

Was für ein cooles Video. Meine U-Boote stehen bislang am Trockenen, jetzt hab ich dank Deiner hammer Anleitung Bock bekommen, mir auch ein Meer Dio zu bauen, völliges Neuland wenn man so sagen kann, bei Wasser.... Dioramen mit Ruinen und Gras, Erde krieg ich ganz gut hin, Wasser wird ein spannendes Experiment, voll Bock drauf, dank Deinem Video 🙂 Hoffe meins wird halbwegs so gut gelingen wie Dein Werk, richtig toll !!

Nice detail work! Suggest next time you're doing a similar diorama that you coat the entire sub with a high gloss to simulate that it's coated with seawater.

Nicely detailed waves and sea surface! I had a 1:144 u-boat like this long ago which I wanted to build a submarine base for with integration of N gauge 1:150 model trains. Well, didn't come true XD

Hi do you think mod podge gloss is a good alternative for the waves or better vallejo water effect?

I think you can use both! But I did not use Mod podge before for such a purpose. Maybe you can test it out and see if you are satisfied with the result. And actually I would not bei surprised If vallejo water effects is just a differently labeled transparent glossy acrylic gel :)

The water looks so amazingly realistic, it's a pity you've made the classic U-Boat diorama mistake. People always extend both periscopes because it looks cool. But in reality the crew would never fully extend both periscopes while surfaced! Why should they?!

Hmmm. I was under the impression that they WOULD extend the periscope on the surface, so they can look over the waves, and see ships further away than they could from the conning tower.

Just a little observation, I think the white water wake is waay too big and wide. these boats were not very fast. It just wouldn't make that much foam. But good effort nonetheless.

Thank you for your comment! And yes, you are right. I noticed that too during construction, but I wanted to have a dramatic water effect and therefore thought with a little imagination and the knowledge that the sea is stormy, the boat is drifting to the side and driving full speed ahead, this effect can still come through 😂

Dein Boot sieht aus, als wenn es schon 30 Jahre auf dem Meeresgrund lag. Die Fahne wurde übrigens nur beim Aus- bzw. einlaufen gehießt.

Ja, das stimmt. Ich musste gerade auch schmunzeln als ich daran dachte, dass es nach 30 Jahren vom Grund gehoben wurde. 😂 Aber ich wollte zu der Zeit aber auch keine ultra realistische Version machen, sondern fand es so extrem gealtert cool. Ich werde das Boot aber auch nochmal mit einem realistischen Ansatz neu machen, diesmal auch mit PE-Teilen. Die Fahne wird trotzdem nochmal aus visuellen Gründen drankommen 😂
