In this tutorial, I break down what a sunstar is & how to create a realistic one within Photoshop cc 2020 giving you the tools needed to create your own.
Note: when it comes down to it, photography is an artistic expression and the sunstar I created for this video was what I thought fit well within the context of this image. You can modify the different sections of this tutorial (blur, amount of points etc) to create different kinds of stars depending on what image you’d like to put it in.
The tutorial section was influenced by a 2013 video from Michael Woloszynowicz which was instrumental in helping me learn this technique.

Thank you! This is exactly what I was looking for. I guess you can create a few and save them to your library? I do real estate and sometimes conditions aren't ideal for the externals, depending on time of day. If the sun is shining directly in your face you have to find a tree or something to hide behind and this technique will help a lot to improve the look of the flare. Thanks again, really helpful and much better than the brushes I've seen.

Nice one, Dale! This was on my list of videos to make this year haha, no need now. I like your attention to detail and organic nature of your star, I've seen my fair share of perfect stars slapped on an image and they look super unrealistic. Look forward to seeing more from you :)

Cheers Matt! - Haha damn, you still should! Really appreciate it :) I think when it comes to adding artificial stuff it's super important to be as accurate as possible otherwise all the work you’ve put into the rest of the image could be hurt...plus it’s fun :P
