I have been making these bags for gifts and have a few insights. First prewash fabric and air dry w/o fabric softener. Any artificial chemicals can burn the bag. Make the bags as video instructs but be really sure the fabric and thread are 100% cotton. Make sure your microwave is REALLY clean (I use a vinegar water mixture with a drop or 2 of Dawn dish soap before popping). The slightest drop of oily food with burn the bag! To pop, I put the bag on a microwave safe plate in the microwave even if there is a glass rotating plate. I don’t use the “Popcorn setting”, instead I put an instruction card with a blank space with the gift on how to pop starting with 2 minutes and listening to the popping. Stop the microwave as soon as the popping sound slows down to an almost stop and write that time in the space on the card. Alas, cotton isn’t really conducive to high heat and eventually the bag will need to be replaced regardless of care. I would love to hear from anyone that has more ideas for prolonging the life of the bag!

Same way you prep the fabric for sewing. Wash in detergent, rinse with plain water (NO fabric softener, also - no dryer sheets, (no chemicals.)@@Transitlady59

I made one and it came out great! I would add the bag can get hot so use potholders or something to take out of microwave. I stopped popping at less than 2 minutes so it didn't burn the popcorn. I agree the microwave needs to be grease free or the bag will burn. Great project for me to teach a 10 year old to sew!

I would add, turn top over 3" Use 1/4 cup kernels Gutermann Threads are 100% Cotton Rasant is cotton wound on poly thread

Be sure to use cotton fabric & cotton thread. If you don't the thread can melt or cause a fire!

Hi I just made this popcorn bag and everything was %100 cotton and pushed the popcorn botton on microwave but my bag and popcorns burns ,I was wondered why

Hi perhaps something was not 100% cotton. It could be either the fabric or the thread

I'm having the same problem. I've tried different settings. Yesterday my bag burned slightly. Not enough time will leave quite a bit of unpopped kernels, so not very economical, but the ones that popped were pretty good. Everything is 100% cotton. I'm going to pass on this. It's just too inconsistent for me. I just purchased an air popper. Good luck. I hope you find the right setting. I think that's the trick.

@@pastda3 Other people are recommending you put the bag on a microwave safe glass plate or a clean paper plate. Supposedly, this keeps the trace oils left on the microwave turntable from causing the fabric to burn.

Or perhaps your microwave had oily food residue that got on the bag and burned it. Not everyone cleans their microwaves.

You failed to mention that for use in a microwave the fabric and thread MUST be 100% cotton!

Do not try this I used 100% cotton and my popcorn caught fire in the microwave
