I need to stop watching these tutorials. There's not enough time in the day! 🤣🤣 Seriously though, thank you! I've just recently started sewing again (by no means do I know what I'm doing). I really enjoy your videos. I plan to make this, but first have another I'm working on, then making your memory game. THEN this one. Wish you could perfect the idea I'm working on. I haven't seen anything like it, so I'm making it up as I go. Imagination without knowledge of how to follow through. 😉

A 1' x 18" x 18" ( a one inch thick eighteen inch round disk) made of Laminated Spruce/Pine round panel is made by The Craft Master's. I bought mine from a local hardware/lumber store. I use these wooden 18 inch disks to turn my tall laundry baskets into round tables. The whole thing (basket and disk) can be hidden under round table clothes (to look like round end tables). These disk do cost more than a dollar; but, they are so much stronger, thicker, and will last a lot longer. You could cover the disk with heavy aluminum foil (shinny side up) to keep dampness away from the wood; then, pad the top with two layers of proper batting, make a cover to fit (as per your wonderful instructions), and use it as a round ironing board when and where needed. I bought my tall laundry baskets from The Family Dollar store. I have been using mine for over 12 years. Thank you for this wonderful idea of how to get more use out of those round wooden disk. Please stay safe.

Hello, I've made a few full sized ironing board covers in my time. Here's my other tips that you might try for yourself. 1. I would sand down the wooden edges of any board shape used. It may be die cut but a rounded not squared off edge would be softer on fabric over time. 2. I would spray baste the batting, towelling or insulbrite or whatever you use to each other, especially if more than a single layer. I've never has a problem with poly cotton 80/20 batting if it's not right under another surface. I just don't have 100 percent cotton batting available due to cost. Another option would be to actually sew any layers together with quilting stitching. It depends if you prefer a perfectly flat surface. Fold up metallic travel ironing mats are quilted and work great too. Hence another option for under your feature fabric. 3. My mum used to make hers wirh a casing for elastic and tie it off before tucking it into the hole of the casing. This is one solution for those without a serger/overlocker machine. If the elastic fails over time or you have an unfortunate spill on your fabric it's an easy change over for either the elastic or the fabric. I would use two layers of fabric as if reversible wirh a casing it's an easy flip over to extend the life of your cover. 4. My last full sized cover came with a string tie, so I did a casing and reused the same string tie. Same possibility with elastic. The tie supplied had a plastic wedge with notches. Much like you see in camping stores for tents and guywires. So don't limit your search to thrift stores for inspiration. 5. Old pillowcases and quilt covers can make great fabric sources for these home ironing boards. It doesn't have to be yardage even if not expensive. I am an advocate for #notextilewaste and the #environment. 6.I hope any of these tips might have uses for anyone watching the video here. Some things may take longer or use more resources but usually without too much additional cost for equally great results. Happy sewing Anita Southall Harris BEYONDAWESOMEDESIGNS

I saw on another ironing board video that the crafter covered a board with a couple of layers of aluminum foil, then 2 layers of cotton batting, then the cover, said that the shiny side of the foil reflected the heat of the iron back toward the fabric, which made the board more effective and also kept the board from steam warping. Sounds logical. I'm assuming Insil-Brite does exactly the same thing? I really like this inexpensive ironing board project and will be making one or two for my sewing/craft room! What was holding me back was the expense of buying 2 pieces of thicker wood and shelling out $15 or so. Thanks for another great video project, Tracy!!!! BTW: My broken cutting board is the crumb catcher under my toaster. :-)

I watched this as it was one you recommended on the screen after another of your videos. As much as I love this idea, my question is, do you find you get condensation underneath the particle board? I ask as I use the pure wool pressing mats next to my sewing machine and often find condensation forming from the heat of the iron, regardless of whether I use steam or not. Thanks for sharing this project and I look forward to making one. Cheers 😀👋🇦🇺

@TheSewingChannel

Each board measures differently so you would need to make each cover “to fit” each individual board✅ The technique/method is the same though. If yours is round then measure 2” out like in the video✅

My hardwood cutting board broke like that too and the thinner piece became my first tailor's clapper. I just put some black electrical tape over the broken edge but I guess I could've sanded it down 😂. Anyway, I still use it today even though I eventually purchased a real clapper. I also like to replace ironing board covers once they start looking a little run down.
