James, when I build a 3-legged stool, I add a faux (wooden) 3-teated cow udder just for kicks - a so-called milk stool.

James, Great video and really nice how it turned out. I have a lot of tools also and liked the jig you made to hold the logs for draw knifing and tenon cutting. One other option is to build yourself a shave horse to hold your wood, but you would need to cut your leg lengths first, then take each piece to a shavehorse to debark, shape, and cut the tenon.

wow, that turned out great!! a slight chamfer/bevel on the bottom edge of the legs may help prevent tiny chunks of wood from splitting off the edge when the stool is slid around but like i said, great result

Looks beautiful Of course, the forest can still be seen in the stool. I would have left the glue off. Drilling that with the wood around the angle is a good idea. Have you ever tried to use a wooden thread? I would like to see if it holds up well.

What did you use to cut the tips of the legs off after you put wedges in?! Wish that part was shown. I'm guessing a Dremel or something as not to cut the surface of stool and to get nice and flush. Thank you

Where did you get the countersink bit for recessing the legs in the top? The drill bit that is in your drill press. I have looked everywhere and can't find it. You did a great job and I will re-watch this as I am going to make some too.

can you do this with green freshly cut wood? I have a small timber lot with maples and birch and my son is starting to show a serious interest in simple woodworking with his hatchet from felling and limbing trees to making wooden wedges and mauls etc. I think he would love to make this stool for his workbench he is 7

I live in a state where it is hard to get logs. I can't find them on the internet already cut. Is there a place I can order small dried logs? I've seen them before in the past on tv where people had them shipped. Can you help.

To assemble the finished product, in reverse order, put the C-leg in the C-hole, put the B-leg in the B-hole, and put the A-leg in the A-hole. Enjoyed your video.

I heard that people that made charcoal the old way in dirt mounds use to only be aloud to sit only on a one leg stool so they wouldn't fall asleep on the job, if you didn't constantly watch the coal mounds... they could turn into a raging inferno!
