for the shortcut key using Alt, I just press Alt and whatever is listed there? I'm trying to get a down arrow shortcut out and well it has a code and then Alt X but nothing happened when I press the combination

Aaron Ck The ALTERNATIVE combinations that have 3 numbers next to them can be a little tricky. Usually better to define a combination of ALT, CTRL and/or SHIFT plus a letter.

Thank you, Deborah, this was so useful. but not sure what I've done wrong as it worked grate on the document I was working on, but the next day after shutting my laptop down all my assigned short cut keys had gone. do I need to save them somehow? One of my short cuts was ñ, to which I assigned ( ctrl + nn ) worked fine on the day, but next time all I got was new page.
