This cake is so beautiful. I bought the Cook's Country Cookbook just so I would have this recipe. It's a lot of work, but it was so worth it! Delicious and pretty on the table.

I truly wish ATK, Cooks Illustrated, and Cooks County would dedicate a show, and a magazine entirely to Bridget and Julia! Here’s why I say this: 1. I remember the very first show they did together, and their co workers (the newer ones) need to see how the 2 literally became the TRUE BACKBONE of what we watch today. This is no way saying the other people and cooks there aren’t valid. But, in my opinion, the two really brought this show to what we have today! If it wasn’t for them...I KNOW there really wouldn’t be a America’s Test Kitchen! 2. Everyone needs to see how much the two have grown. If I may say so myself, Bridget was more of a shy bashful person when she started. Look at her today! Go BRIDGET! And look at Julia... To me Julia was more hyper(in a very good way), she definitely had the New York thing going on which I definitely loved and still do about her. Again... look at Julia today! All grown up more mellow ( I kinda wish she’d bring back that NY flare again). But the point is: If it were not for these two ladies THERE WOULD BE NO SHOW(S)!!! Together they are like 2 peas in a pod. I love and respect you both and I wanna say Thank You for so many years of enjoyment! I just the company to do the same for you on and off camera!

Yes, yes, yes, no shade to Chris who left the show, but ATK got so much better once Julia & Bridgit took over the main hosting duties, been watching this show myself for about 12 years now & the ladies are FANTASTIC.

I have the Dash toaster, which I absolutely love! The only time my toast flew out of the top was the first time that I used it...after that, it has never happened again....love the window to keep an eye on the browning. I would recommend this brand. Got it at Amazon for under $44.00.

That finished cake looks amazing! I found myself wishing it was the color of the bottom layer of frosting because I love purple stuff, if I can call that purple lol, but since blueberries were the coloring agent I imagine it makes a fun, evolving eating dynamic. 🤔 I'm probably too late to make preserves with local fruits this year, but I'm excited for next year's haul after watching this. 😁 I hope I remember this for later. Thank you! 💜💚

I just watched this episode on the Create Channel, March 25. In their description of the show it has this recipe, and a review of toasters with Adam and Bridget, and then Bryan Roof and Bridget make Gooey Butter Cake Bars. Of course, there is ONLY the jam cake recipe on this episode. I noticed this last year when I wanted to see the gooey cake recipe. Please ask Create to fix their description. Thanks. Love you guys.

Christie is wonderful! beautiful cake. i would like to have seen a demonstration of moving the cake from turntable to serving dish. Do you just put the whole turntable in the refrigerator? That's impractical because I chose the cast iron model :(. I might also have to re-arrange a shelf.

I made this recipe and followed the directions. For some reason the layers came out very thin. Like 1/2" thin. What did I do wrong?
@quilliammiscellany5233
@quilliammiscellany5233 3 жыл бұрын
Just guessing, but perhaps: Forgot the baking powder? It wouldn't rise hardly at all without it. Used the wrong size cake pans? Theirs are 8 inch, large pans would make thinner layers. Overmixed the batter before putting it into pans? The egg whites aren't whipped, but they do trap some air which could get mixed out if mixed too long. I haven't tried the recipe, but hope this might help!

I've had the same issue. I am a very experienced and accomplished baker but I've tried this cake a few times now and while it is beautiful and has a nice flavor, it is always thin and a bit dry. I wouldn't call it a bad cake, but it's definitely not the perfect recipe I'm looking for. Watching the episode over and over, I noticed their layers are a bit thin compared to my usual cakes. So unfortunately I don't know there is anything "wrong"...just may not be everyone's cup of tea. I will use the frosting tips and techniques for other cakes though as that was very nice.

I tried baking the cake and the rounds were thin. I watched the video many times, checked all the dates on my flour and baking powder, and used 8-inch rounds. I read a few articles online as to why my rounds were flat and then tried a second time. Unfortunately, the same thing happened. Could it be my oven temp is off? The rounds looked like they were rising, but fell a few minutes out of the oven. I don't have a stand mixer so I had to use a handheld and tried not to overbeat the batter. I really want to make the cake, but can not figure out what I'm doing wrong.

So if mixing the butter into the flour and then adding the liquid doesn't cause gluten, then does this mean it is a gluten free cake?

The gluten still exists in the flour. Gluten is developed when added with a liquid and “worked.” It is NOT gluten-free.
