I seem to remember Christopher Schwarz visiting a shaker museum( Enfield?) and taking pictures under the original pieces and finding pocket holes with wood screws....maybe the shakers did pocket holes. Love your energy and take on life!

Yes, they did use pocket holes. It's actually a pretty old joinery method... Uses a special bit that you can use with hand tools like a brace to drill out the hole... A number of old hand tool woodworkers have demonstrated it...

Your idea of a personal journey for woodworking actually works for just about everything. I find a base recipe to use for cooking. I find a few others for flavor and enhancements. Then I personalize it to my liking. Add stuff, remove stuff, change quantities, etc Also you rock your beard. Seeing you without one just seems strange to me. Haha

Made a few plant stands that are nearly identical in design to this. I used pocket holes for the first one but switched to mortise and tenon for the last two. The screws started cracking the legs and I wasn’t happy with alignment, the screws still caused some shifting. The mortise are tenons really didn’t take that much extra time.

Hey David, quick question.. At the beginning of the video :14 when you cross cut the huge board on the table saw with the mitre gauge, How come you didn't flip the board around and cut it being supported along the whole mitre gauge and have the off cut on table saw fence side of the blade?
