Andrew shows you what you need to make your own soldering area and showing you his soldering station and a brand new piece of equipment from Durston Tools.
Andrew is on lockdown for the next few weeks and is producing films based upon what you want to see.
Please reach out to him by what ever means you can and ask him some questions that he can make films about. It may be something simple or just a thought but please reach out to him so he can make some content for us all to keep us entertained over the next few months.

Love this channel I learn so much especially about soldering. I really wish I took welding in high school but I chose auto mechanics thinking that knowing how to change a tire would be a better thing to know rather than working with metals. Until I grew up and had tons of broken expensive pieces of jewelry that people either would charge me an arm a leg to fix because of the value or even as terrible as changing out some stones of certain pieces and thinking I wouldn’t have ever known. I now consider you my savior in life for these tutorials! 🙏🏼 I appreciate you!

Thanks Andrew. I'm just setting up a studio in a log cabin and I plan on having a large 3 sided workstation and i want to set a soldering station that is kept in 1 place and that doesn't cause me to set fire to the wooden panels of the walls behind it, I'd been thinking of how I would do that, and you've just given me the solution. I thoroughly enjoy your channel and I must admit your tutorial on rings was very freeing.

I meant to say the Foredom handpiece is much more comfortable and easier to grip than the Dremel 2000 I own, which I may set up as a drill press, still the Dremel has some good uses. That Foredom motor has some heft to it though, it is going to be great fun forgetting my arthritis!

Andrew, I have learned so much from your videos. You have asked for suggestions and if you have not already done this topic what about making bezel settings for pear-shaped cabs. I have 3 beautiful turquoise cabs and have put off making anything with them because I am clueless. I absolutely enjoyed your video on oval bezel settings and I have an idea it is very similar .... it is all in the measuring!!!

still looking over some of the best videos. I just got my Foredom flex shaft minutes ago, off of the Fed Ex truck! Got a great deal, only $98 includes foot pedal & hand piece, it may or may not be compatible with the quick-release H20, not a concern right now! I am probably going to try polishing and cutting some abalone pieces, and making some silver bezels for pendants for gifts , and I am so glad I let you talk me into getting a Foredom, I can already tell you the handpiece is much more comfortable, without running the motor. It is an SR,and I will gladly show you some of the projects as I complete them!

Also, how might one work their ventilation systems with this solderite station? I am presently installing an inline exhaust fan with duct tubing, (debating on 4 or 6” ducting), but am perplexed how to employ either with the soldering enclosure. Run tubing inside or lay atop back or side boards?

Thank you for this new video. I was just wondering how to do this. Another 'lockdown' topic/video idea; Pickling; types of pickling solutions, how to make them (powder to water ratio) what temperature is best also; do we have to put our soldered item into the solution as soon as we finish soldering or can we do this later (in a few hours/days when we have more than one piece ready to immerse)/ would waiting longer make a difference

I have a Durston Clamp-On Desk Lamp. This is a wonderful bench lamp. It's $124 at Otto Frei currently (#113.1905), but worth every penny. You can put it where you want to attach it to the bench with its clamp. It's lightweight and very easy to maneuver and it will stay exactly in the position you want it. It doesn't pull back or sink down. There are three different types of light - bright, warm, and cool so you can use different light for different tasks. And each kind of light is dimmable with a very nice low-to-high range. Oh, and the bulbs are LED so it will probably last forever.

Hi Andrew, thank you very much for taking the time to make your videos and sharing so much of your knowledge. They have three different prices so I suppose they differ in some way?

I can't speak for prices in the UK, but when I made my soldering area I used 9mm fiber cement sheet for the basic body it was less than half the cost of the soldering boards and 10 times stronger then I just use the bricks etc placed inside to do the soldering on

@E-Kat
@E-Kat 2 жыл бұрын
Do not use brick as it will absorb the heat away from the item you're soldering and it will take longer to solder. I'm not sure if the cement board absorbs heat instead of reflecting it.🤔

@@E-Kat Insulating bricks e.g. K23 actually absorb less heat than the old fashion charcoal blocks Fibre Cement is not suitable for direct flame as it will break up.
