I built a vacuum form machine back about 30 years ago. Had an industrial vacuum pump, two air compressor tanks with a total of about 10 cubic feet of vacuum space, heater element and a welded stand. Total cost was about $500. Two different size plastic sheets could be pulled. 12”x12” and 12”x18”. Pretty much used it for animatronic work. Wish I had it now.

Thank you Lowell, this setup uses 3 stages of vacuum, first the shop vac pulls most of the air out and sets the plastic against the platen edges, second, the large air tank sucks about 90 % that’s left, and then 3rd the vacuum pump kicks in and takes care of the rest and really pulls it down tight.
@cynicalrabbit915
@cynicalrabbit915 3 жыл бұрын
@@junkyardjedi386 After seeing a vacuum form diy build, I thought a better way would be to build a plenum under the top with 2 or 3 vacuum motors made for Carwash vacuums. And auto switches as the hot plastic was brought down so the motors would be at speed by the time the plastic was down.

So now we know where you get your massive creativity from, Mr. and Mrs. Jedi are amazing parents, Mr. Jedi did an amazing job of engineering and building - along with the proper amount of safety tips and tricks for how to make this project stand out. The engine paint was a great touch on this for example along with the information about how to do the math for how much power the oven would need based on the amount of material used for the heating elements. One of the best 'how to' videos I've watched in a while.

Hi there. He is retired now, but building and making was not his full time job. My grandfather was a master carpenter, and my dad has been building things all my life. Everything from simple costume props for Halloween, to a 7500 sq foot custom home that he designed and put almost every nail in himself. He's a mad man! LOL

HUH?! At about 14 minutes in or about halfway when the first tests are being run, he whips out a zip lock bag of Nickel Chromium wire, or NiChrome. Did that take some smuggling? Im wondering though, could that NiCheome wire be somehow made more stiff, or not so flexible? Great work!! It’s awesome. And thanks for calling those forms ‘bucks’ as the older car body builders could appreciate that. Thanks again for sharing!!

He’s amazing. He is self taught on almost everything. It comes from working with his father, who was an amazing craftsman, and self teaching along the way. Always learning new ways to make something out of nothing!

you get like this growing up in an age where there was no Internet / Instagram / Facebook and all this time consuming Social Media. People would read Books, ask other People, learn from others or just do own research. You would OWN your skills and not just copy what others did / do. I grew up in the same way and once in a while need to laugh what pwople show off on the Internet. I did this 30 years ago.... there where no GoProHero and Insta and whatever. I just have old Paper Photos from my Projects.
