I helped my grandfather make Willow chairs when I was a boy. I am really wanting to do this soon with my son. This was a very informative video. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and love for this forgotten craft.

Hi John, thank you for the video. Could you please make a short video of what the willow looks like when you harvest it. Im not sure what willow is in the field and would like to be able to collect some to try this myself

This is an awesome video. I make canes out of willows and red birch as well as 2x4's but I've often thought of making this type of chair. Now I have a much better idea of how to do it , and there are a lot of willows around where I live, Saskatchewan Canada . Your style of chair is going to be in Canada LOL

A very instructive video production! I have always been curious about bentwood furniture and this has satisfied that curiosity! What are alternative woods that could be used? The woods on my property are mixed hardwood and conifers. There is an abundance of Yaupon Holly. I wonder if it could be used in the construction of these chairs? What do you think?

This is a great video. We bought one of these type chairs in Wisconsin. We love it and I really want to make some myself. I wasn't too bothered by the camera. I just would like to know about harvesting the willow and the alder. And are there alternatives to alder? Seems you could use just about any hard wood, eh? Finally.... when the chair is done, do you vanish? Would be nice to have pointers on that at least.

I got a ton of scotchbroom that looks like it would work great. It's an invasive plant so they encourage you clear as much as you want. They even give u instructions. I am thinking of trying this method with scotchbroom. That could be a great sustainable use for it. I live in the Pacific Northwest. We don't have willow here so much I don't think.

Would it be possible to get a "parts list" for this chair. Ie how long the seat pieces are, how long the braces etc. From watching this I come up with 18 pieces needed for frame and 30ish willow pieces needed but it would help if there were approximate measurements. the only measurements I caught are front legs 16" and back legs 26". I know this is a rustic piece and measurements don't have to be exact but when I go out to find my pieces it would help. I LOVE this tutorial!!! Thank you so much!

This is some great information, but it's REALLY hard to watch. I hope you can redo this video after the person filming gets some pointers in how to do it. #1 hold the camera still. Try a tripod. Don't jerk the camera around so much. It makes it really difficult to watch. Love these beautiful chairs and would like to try to make one. Please try filming again!
