Thank you...I'm super new. I made turmeric soap. First batches seized, I saved them by cooking in crock pot. It turned out great ! Then I made another CP turmeric soap, I thought it was good. But when I unmold it, it dry and cracked. Again saved by my crock pot....then I'm thinking why not just make HP. So far your video is really clear gave information. In most videos, I watched no recipes or no talking just annoying music. Thank you Ellen !

@napfreedom2153
@napfreedom2153 2 жыл бұрын
@@sl4983 Hello, when I do CP I freeze my water into cubes. Weight out in cubes, add my lye amount. ⚠️ Still wear goggles and mask 💯The lye dissolves the ice, not only are the fumes(low low) gone, but the mixture cools much faster. I like to soap at 85-90 degrees.

Pretty pretty!! I made some the other day for the first time in about a year. My 4th or 5th batch only lol A tip for you, I don’t normally have test strips but I watched a gal(can’t remember her name) she took out a tiny bit once it became that gel mashed potato consistency and washed her hands with it, if it turns to soap while washing, it’s ready. I’ve been doing that ever since 😊

Beautiful! I’ve been making both cp and hp , but I learned something new from this video to make mine more fluid, thanks for sharing your adventure. My thoughts on essential oils in hot process is exactly the same, it just makes more since to me that their beneficial properties would be left more intact. 😊 Side note, love your eye makeup application, looks very nice. I was a makeup artist and photographer for about 25 years. I’m about three years into soap making, thanks to Elly’s Everyday! Came across your video more recently. They’re great.

I love hot process, too. Those look remarkably like your beautiful cold process soaps. My theory on fragrances is you add them at the end of the cook and there's no lye attacking the fragrance molecules so they do better. However, it's just a theory, too. Great job!

Hello there! Great video, I've made two batches of HP soap and I of course used a spatula to scrape the edges of my crock pot but I used a sturdy whisk to mix the mixture while cooking. Using a whish made the mixture really smooth with no lumps and probably reduced cooking time. Because the cooked soap gets hard so fast I never thought that you could do a swirl design. I want to make a HP olive oil soap soon so I will give it a try, thank you for the inspiration!!

So that is what flashpoint means. I never knew that. Pretty soap.
@EllenRuthSoap
@EllenRuthSoap 3 жыл бұрын
It's almost always printed on the label. It's a flammable point.
@amistydimnesssoap7005
@amistydimnesssoap7005 3 жыл бұрын
That is not what flashpoint is, and losing fragrance has nothing to do with the flashpoint. From a chemist... Flash point is the temperature at which a substance will burn if exposed to a flame. It's not the auto ignition temp, and it's not the temp at which something will burn if exposed to a spark. And it has zero to do with how easy a chemical goes "poof." Volatility is the concept you're really talking about, which is the ability of a chemical to evaporate or volatilize. The vapor pressure of a chemical at a given temperature and pressure is the measurement of the chemical's volatility. The higher the vapor pressure, the higher the volatility and the faster it will evaporate. There are highly volatile chemicals that don't have a flash point, because they don't burn. Flash points are easy to find because they're required information on every Safety Data Sheets (SDS or MSDS) for products sold on the open market so fire fighters can do their job of fighting fires. Vapor pressure measurements are much harder to find.

This has been wonderful to watch! You did great jobs on your first two batches...Way better than I did. :) You may even make your job easier and add your color to the batter before it's cooked. I've been doing that to help get the color mixed in easily without adding much more water post-cook, and I've really liked the results. You're doing wonderfully, and I feel silly even making a suggestion when yours have been so much more successful than mine, but I felt like it wouldn't hurt to offer a tip. :)

@@EllenRuthSoap - If I may comment. I normally add the sugar to the soap along with the yogurt and I have no issue. I used to add the sugar to they lye solution and noticed that depending on what type of ingredients I was using (i.e. oatmilk and oats) the batter would turn darker from the sugar caramelizing which is why I decided to add it after the soap had cooked.

I'm struggling so much to get my hot process to work for me. I find that I'm getting too thick of a batter and almost instantly it gets so thick that I can't even stir it. I'm going to try again with EVOO in a large amount for my 1 lb. batch for trial. I also add goats milk (3 oz) as well as hemp and yogurt. Its getting the best of me and Id appreciate some insight into what I'm doinhg wrong. Thank you so much. I enjoy watching your videos but I think a video just on making lye solution would be very helpful. Im thinking this is where the trouble lies.

Your Hot Process soaps came out beautiful! I felt so discouraged from a large batch that I made. It seemed to have come out too soft. My first batch came out perfect, but the large one didn't. Do you think it could be that it contained too much water? My first batch took only 2 days to harden, and I was able to use it fairly quickly. Not sure exactly what happened there. I'm a new soap maker and still learning. I really enjoy your videos :)
