Thanks, we used 5/8" line might be a little big, but it's what we had on the boat.

How about sliding some CABAC shrink tubing over the braiding and then shrinking it down. Cabac has a strong glue on the inside.

Why not use a a soft shackle instead of a chain hook? I almost never see chain hooks any more, just soft shackles. Cheaper, just as strong, never fall off, don't wear the galvanizing off, more user friendly.
