Arguments for your server:
For 2GB:
java -Xms2G -Xmx2G -jar paper.jar
For 3GB:
java -Xms3G -Xmx3G -jar paper.jar
For 4GB:
java -Xms4G -Xmx4G -jar paper.jar
Be sure to change the amount of RAM necessary if needed

SOME THINGS I FORGOT TO MENTION:
1) When you first join you will not be the operator / admin of your server. To change this, in your minecraft server terminal type in: "op [your-minecraft-name]" - Without the quotes, and press ENTER
2) This is for Java only, bedrock has a different set-up.
3) run.bat is just an executable file. If you're only using your server for a few individuals, do not worry about setting it up. You can just double click on your paper.jar file and enjoy the server that way instead :)
4) If you are unsure how to set up port-forwarding, please please please contact your ISP. I cannot stress this enough that they are EXTREMELY helpful and can get you set up with just a few clicks.
5) If you don't want to use your IP address, consider looking up "Free DNS" on Google. A trusted website I highly recommend is namecheap.
6) If you want a custom seed then follow 3 simple steps:
1 - Close your server. Delete the world, world_nether and world_the_end folder (or back it up if you want to keep it safe)
2 - Go into server.properties, locate the "level-seed" variable and paste in the seed you want to use there.
3 - Open up the server again and your server will now load that seed into the game. Enjoy!

If you want it 24/7 just leave the server running 24/7. There is no other special trick to making it run 24/7. IF YOUR RUN.BAT IS NOT WORKING - PLEASE READ NOTE 2 ON THIS PINNED COMMENT PLEASE DO NOT SHARE YOUR PUBLIC IP IN THE COMMENTS. THIS SHOULD ONLY BE SHARED WITH PEOPLE YOU TRUST. If you want to make your server public, either: 1) Consider professional hosting services OR 2) look at getting a free DNS. Plenty of companies offer this service. DO NOT USE CRACKED LAUNCHERS FOR YOUR SERVER. THEY CAN BE UNSAFE AND I CANNOT GUARANTEE IT WILL WORK AS INTENDED. Some notes based on commonly asked questions: NOTE 1: If your EULA.txt is not showing: be sure to give it time. The server takes a few minutes to set up from scratch. Check on it again shortly afterwards. NOTE 2: If your run.bat doesn't run. Don't worry. All run.bat does is execute whatever has been written inside it. Please follow the steps carefully in step 4 to ensure you've saved it as all files. And that it's insude the SAME folder as everything else in your server. If all else fails, don't worry. I recommend you find the most technical man / woman you know and ask them for help. In the meantime: Just double click on paper.jar and enjoy your server that way. It just means you won't be able to customize your RAM allocation. Which I can't imagine will be an issue for the vast majority of you guys anyways. Hope this helps! NOTE 3: Chrome and your Anti-Virus will pick up on the fact that paper.jar is an unrecognisable file and could be dangerous. Please understand this is only saying it "COULD" be. It is absolutely safe to use and has been widely adopted with over 2000 large and established servers all running paper MC. I sincerely hope that I provided not just information, but also entertainment to you in this video. It is a philosophy that I wish to take going forward. Making how to videos fun and entertaining, while also containing all the critical information one would need. If this helped you out, consider returning the favour and Subscribing. @@hydraazen few things to ensure: 1) you must be connected to the internet for the server to work. 2) make sure you paste in the correct IP in the server.properties file where it says server-ip: 3) make sure when you connect that you're signed into your microsoft/mojang account Hope that helps!

Great Video! It has been the first tutorial that has actually worked for me! But would it be possible to transfer a 1.16.5 world into the new update? I know that the world generation would stay the same in the loaded chunks, but I want it to be like a normal single player world, in which it updates the new chunks with the new update. Would all that be possible? Could I just move the world folders into the 1.17 server folder?

If you plan on creating a custom IP, I suggest using FreeDNS. They allow you to set up a custom domain name entirely (for free), and everything is managed on their side. Hope that helps!

Hey man! I would say contact your ISP. Trust when I say these guys are very helpful and will have no problem guiding you through the process. Just say you want to set up a server and need to enable "port mapping". They'll know exactly what you mean :) Hope that helps

Is it possible to make an smp on bedrock? If so can you make please instructions for that

Hey! Yes it's absolutely possible, however it'll be a different process. I focus primarily on the Java edition of Minecraft. If I get more requests in future to make a bedrock version of this video I will happily consider making that viddeo. For now, though, I've got a few other projects in the pipeline and won't be able to. Sorry man!

I've combed through the video and am pretty sure there's no leak :) You see the last 3 digits, but not the whole thing. As for your default gateway and IPv4 address, those IP's are link-local addresses and are not your public IP address. That said... if you've noticed anything, I appreciate if you let me know. However, I'm certain nothing was shown. :p Was a scary video to publish I will say, gotta be careful xD

i could'nt open paper.jar for some reason :( it just does nothing.. someone help plz (edit) i think i got it it was cuz 1.17 = java 16 yeah it worked sorry :) but seriously tho, ive been trying to make a server in years and i finally found a GOOD tutorial to make one, thank you dude :D

OMG thank you so much! After spending endless amounts of hours looking up complicated websites with confusing instructions, I finally find a clear and concise guide. However, when using the server properties, I wanted to change the difficulty from easy to hard by typing "hard" and replacing "easy." But when I went back on to the game it still said easy. Then to test out if I could change anything else, I changed the monster spawn from true to false, then saw that monsters were still in the game. Is there something I am doing wrong here?

Make sure you're turning the server off, change the settings, and then turning it on afterwards :)
