I made these for the first time with my two older sisters over thanksgiving break using your recipe. One of my sisters had very big apples (like x2 or x3 the size a regular apple) so we just used those. We had to microwave the apple slices for much longer since the slices were huge. They just perfectly fit in the cupcake tray and still turned out great and delicious. Thank you for sharing this recipe! Will definitely bake these again-hopefully with smaller apples this time.

Hi Matt, Great video ! I realize it’s 4 years old. I have a few questions. If I make it ahead of time how do I store it ? In the fridge or on counter top? Do I reheat to serve? Can these be refrigerated overnight after baking? What other fruits can I use? Pears, persimmons or peaches? Thank you !
@inthekitchenwithmatt
@inthekitchenwithmatt 6 ай бұрын
Thank you! You can store it in an airtight container at room temperature for a few days. BUT they will taste better when first made, just like all pastries. Serve them at room temp or you can heat them up if you want them warm, but not too much otherwise they will overbake. Peaches will probably work, pears possibly, they need to be able to hold their shape when thinly sliced like the apples. If the slices are too thick they won't roll up. Hope that helps!
@txmap
@txmap 10 ай бұрын
Beautiful! Can these be made and baked the day before? If so, would you have to store them in the fridge and then warm up a bit to crisp the dough back up, or would they taste ok cold (or set out till room temperature)?
@inthekitchenwithmatt
@inthekitchenwithmatt 10 ай бұрын
Thank you! They certainly can be made the day before, but they won't taste nearly as good as freshly made. That is just how it goes with puff pastry style desserts. but you can heat them back up in the oven or air fryer, but definitely don't heat them up in the microwave they will get soggy.

Glad you made them! They are always going to taste best when fresh. You can store them at room temp in an airtight container for a day or two, after that, store them in the fridge for a few more days after that, if they last that long. :) :)

@@inthekitchenwithmatt - I have tried it several times now and even though it was okay it just didn't seem to be as good as what I have had from some Greek friends of mine back in Atlanta use to make for me. Not sure what I was doing wrong. I mean it was okay and the family liked it it just wasn't what I was hoping for.

@@inthekitchenwithmatt - Sounds awesome. I had an employee that was a little old Greek lady that use to bring me a whole pan of it each year when they had their annual Greek festival. It's another dish that takes a long time to make. Basically due to all the layers and trying to keep the filo you are using damp between assembling each layer. And of course I try to do it with the Grandkids helping... Lol... Probably need to do it a couple of times without help to get it figured out. That might help. :)

Same day is best. They won't be as good if you make them a day before. :) So if you can, make them the same day. But I recommend doing a trial run and making them a week or two ahead of time, so you have it down, and then you can test a few and see how they are the next day. Good luck!

The store was out of puff pastry so I got phyllo dough (Siri said they were similar) but it’s like tissue paper thin and dry. Any tips?
@inthekitchenwithmatt
@inthekitchenwithmatt 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Deborah, Siri is wrong haha, they are not the same. For these definitely need puff pastry. You can try normal pie dough crust as well, but it won't turn out as well. Or make homemade puff pastry. :) Here is my homemade puff pastry video kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a7p5mtmnxtmYgX0.html

@@lifethrough.ourlens Follow the exact same procedure as the video only instead of using the microwave use the stovetop burner. At 2:50 in the video instead of putting the bowl of water and apple slices in the microwave, pour the contents into a pot and heat up the water on the burner. Heat up the water until you see lots of mini bubbles like at 3:01 in the video.

I am not sure, I haven't made these in the microwave before. I always use a traditional oven. If they are getting burnt try lower heat. For example a traditional convection oven should be 30 degrees F lower than the temp on the recipe.
