Thank you for your question, Virali. You can use a commercial egg replacement/substitute. Some people have luck replacing each egg with 1/4 cup of whipped silken tofu. Good luck!

Hi, Diego Jimenez - To divide the cake batter evenly between pans, you'll want to eyeball the amount in each pan. Pour a good amount into the first pan, and then into the second. If the batter in the pans doesn't look even, use a big soup spoon to scoop out some from one pan and then pour it into the second. Do this a few times until the levels of the batter look even.

I tried this today. I have never made a layer cake in my life or even used a tube to tube out whip cream. I have to say this cake was so easy to make and it is sooooo delicious. Thank you for the great teaching instructions. I will definitely be making this cake a lot.

Thanks for checking. It's best to use corn starch in this recipe. When used as a thickener, the corn starch will make the sauce clear.

If the cake didn't rise, we'd recommend checking the expiration date on your baking powder and baking soda. If you do want a taller cake, you can certainly bake more layers and stack them on top of one another. Enjoy!

Well, I made this recipe today and i DID use some of the remaining juice with a bit of lemon juice to moisten it and it turned out AMAZING!!!! Absolutely amazing. My boyfriend hates chocolate cake and he's very picky, but he LOVED this :)

you forgot to include the most important ingredient of a real black forest cake ( the cake is called "Schwarzwälderkirtschtorte", meaning, Blackforest cherry cake) but the cherry that is referred to in this cake is not the cherries on them but the Kirschwasser or cherry schnaps (or liquor) which is produced exclusively in the Blackforest area.in Germany. the sponge cake is spread with it, and so are the cherry pudding and the cream which should by the way a little bit sweetened with sugar and some gelatine so that the cream remains firm. a tip from a german baker.

You are 100% correct, pelangable! That is the authentic way to make this classic cake. Many cooks use this recipe and then add 1/4 to 1/2 cup kirsch liqueur to the cake batter. It adds a lovely cherry flavor.

Allrecipes It would also be required to sell the cake in Germany as a "Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte". In fact, statutory requirements mandate that enough liqueur is added to make its taste noticeable.

Thank you for your question. Without the cocoa, the cake will be flat and on the wet side. If you prefer not to bake a chocolate cake, we'd suggest trying one of our recipes for White or Vanilla cake :) Happy baking!

my mom used a sewing thread to split the cake layers- a small cut all around the layer , where you used the big knife, put the thread in the cut- and around the layer, then tie a knot and pull both ends of the thread slowly- - even layers with no misscutting or cutting marks

Good question! Tart cherries are not as sweet, so you could try adding a little bit of sugar and honey. Or if you like the sour taste, use them just as they are. Should be delicious! You would want to use 1.5 cans to make sure you have enough cherries.

My husband is a German and he loves black forest cake. I make it for him every year for his birthday. I can only make the American version though since we're in America. Right now, I'm cooking your cherry filling recipe. I hope it will turn out good. Wish me luck!

Hi Sumaya, you can substitute the cornstarch with flour, potato or rice starch or arrowroot. You can definitely use strawberry instead of cherries, that would be delicious!

Cherries are usually a key flavor in Black Forest Cake. If your not a fan, you can certainly omit them or try substituting them with another fruit like strawberries or raspberries :)

Isnt this cake supposed have either the cherry juice or cherry brandy drizzled over the actual cake layers to moisten them? That's the authentic way if im not mistaken.....and real chocolate shavings instead of a crumbled cake as decoration?

Kirschwasser specifically. No, it’s poured into the mixture. Then you have the cherries themselves, for the outer layer.

Hi ,I tried ur recipe many times and Everytime it came out great my husband loves it always ur cake is so different and special among others thank you for such a great reciep. I add grated chocolate on top and homemade chocolate syrup on cake before adding cherries and whipping creame

as a German, i recommend using chocolate shavings instead of crumbs to cover the outside and originally, there is kirschwasser or other cherry brandy to be put on to the layers.. :D :D

Hi assej park! We're going to guess that your oven is in Celsius? If so; you will want to set your oven to 175 degrees Celsius and bake for 35 minutes, or until a wooden toothpick inserted in centers comes out clean. Happy baking!!

You can use buttermilk instead of milk. This recipe makes enough for one 9-inch, 3 layer cake. Enjoy :)

Tried this recipe came out well. But it was but dry but I have added cherry syrup to the sponge, so it was moist. Over all the cake was great 👍

Berkeley farm vanilla yogurt, frozen cherry, rum Bacardi. Taste similar like cherry filling. The whole thing take a lot of work...it looks like art

Because the bowl, electric beaters, and whipping cream have to be COLD, REALLY COLD in order for it to rise and be fluffy enough to cover or ice the cake. If you use a standing mixer for that, it gets hot, and it doesn't work. While you're doing everything else, you can put your bowl, electric beaters and cream in the freezer, and then whip it without problems :)

Putting vanilla extract into boiling liquid cooks it away. Add it at the end after you’re done cooking the filling and it cools a little or is at least off the heat.

Hi, I think this is is a really delicious cake, but not exactly a black forest cake ;) More like inspired by it. Normally you drip some cherry brandy on top of the different layers to make them moist, that's what gives the cake that speciall taste (at least in my opinion, and I never ate black forest cake without it ^^).

Allrecipes I have a little concern about my cake . when I made it of course it was fantastic but i am wondering why it does rise high in the middle than at the sides ? , I baked it in one cake pan 9 inch.

Moon light it happens when the temperature of your oven it's too high, just adjust the temperature, you can use a thermometer!

thanks nicole allison , I have made something which prevent it from rising in the middle. I put a wet cloth inside aluminum foil and then i put them around the sides of the pan and it did help the cake to rise equally well. but of course i will check on my temperature . just I want to share my experience with you.

This looks DELICIOUS! And sounds delicious! I wonder if it may be a good idea to use some of the cherry juice to create a syrup and brush onto the layers so they soak it up and the cake is moist?

I agree that using the standing mixer at the beginning is a little too much. Still, I wouldn't use the standing mixer to whip cream because it heats up too much D:

2 cups+ 2 tbs flour 2 2 cups sugar 3/4 cocoa 1 1/2 tsp baking powder 3/4 tsp baking soda 3/4 salt stir em n a bowl then add 3 eggs 1 cup of milk 1/2 cup oil 1 tbs vanilla mix em bake em for 35 min
