In this video, I go through my thought process in making a box joint jig for the jig saw. I also shortly describe another jig saw jig for cuting groves and rabbits.

Jigsaw was my first power tool as well. An alternative to the tablesaw is always a good option. Like you said, not everyone has a tablesaw and the jigsaw is so much safer. Almost forgot...that chair looks awesome!

Never even considered a jigsaw for making any of those joints. Very cool

The jigsaw has always been my arch nemesis in the shop. However when my table saw took a dump on me years ago I made a jig to make finger joints using my bandsaw. That is a great idea tho for those who are just starting out and dont have a table saw. I may need to give this a try and see if I can finally conquer my nemesis lol. Thanks.

I’ve always called the jigsaw ‘the wrongest tool for any job’. I have horrible skills with jigsaws, the blade always kicks out on the bottom of my curved cuts, it struggles massively depending on angle of the grain, it just never does what I want cleanly. I’m impressed you can make it do precise work like this.

I would very much appreciate some drawings of these jigs if possible. I have some 1 inch plywood that I got specifically to start making some jigs, and I'd love to have some good images and rough measurements of them. If not drawings, just some good profile pics of each side.

Ingenius ! I often wondered if a JigSaw could be used for this, as I cannot afford a tablesaw

As seen at 11:19, you made a spacer/key insert in that adjustable depth stop. Excellent!! One can make exchangeable keys (inserted on dovetailed slot) - for wider fingers, if needed. Then "dado" the waste with multiple passes. Or go completely Frankenstein, mount the jigsaw with the jig, upside down to your workbench and use it as ghetto bandsaw (extra cautious & mounting emergency switch off button in the power circuit).

If the jig had a lever drawer runners and a couple of return springs I think it would make it easier and quicker to use.

Hello Josh I like all your videos but I’m an older man and I can’t build gadgets but I like what you do and how you do it thanks for your videos, I like to buy your gadget for joins with jigsaw triangle to cut in half the thickness to make the join and the last for fingers joints that you show in this video and also the carpenters hammer let me know where I can send you money and how much will be for those items thanks

I may have missed it, but how did you make the strip of wood?
@JoshWrightWoodworking
@JoshWrightWoodworking 3 жыл бұрын
The jig saw blade is about 1/16" thick so I cut a strip of wood to the same width of 1/16" and spaced the strip the same 1/16" away from the blade. This way, after each cut, the strip of wood fits perfectly into the cut and spaces the next cut 1/16" away.
