I reckon a plough plane could have helped with those grooves. After the two passes on the table saw, it could quite quickly remove everything else (or you could even do the whole thing with a plane). A router plane with the right blade could also clean out the bottom. In any case, a lot faster and neater than a chisel for this job. Nice work!

Are you using a Dremel to cut your notches? What blade type do you use to cut into the spade bits?

Still will require a bit of skill for a realistic result but a clever idea. 👍

Yeah, some definitely turn out better than others. I used a heat gun to remelt and adjust the glue on the ones that didn't look quite right.

@sneakyhippo86633 күн бұрын
Maybe, hot glues melting point is 250°-375°. I’d find a higher temperature hot glue that way the softening point is around 160°.

The beauty of your end product aside, I wouldn’t imitate anything you’ve done in this video. Review your methods while you’ve still got your fingers.

Lots of waste and won't they break by have the grain like that across the ring like that? 🤷
@JoshWrightWoodworking5 күн бұрын
The ring is glued in 2 parts . One part has the grain running vertical, the other part has the grain running horizontal. There is strength in both directions like plywood, making the ring more difficult to break.

Ingenuity and imagination are certainly not elements missing from this young man's work. Amazing stuff 😉👍🏼👏🏼. However, the kit he has available to him is far beyond the reach of most D.I.Y'ers. Would be great to see what he could create with the tools likely available to the rest of us: a hand or jig saw, a vice, a few chisels, a hand drill. Perhaps an angle grinder, hot glue gun, etc.
@GoCreateSomething6 күн бұрын
Beautiful is what it is. It could be a lantern or a votive candle holder. Using the chop saw to hog out wood on an angle is pretty creative. With some thought, I believe you could use it for some joinery like the table saw is used for box joints. Maybe diagonal joints instead of horizontal ones would be a simple start. Thanks for the inspiration!
