I went out fishing yesterday and decided to give it a go to this burley recipe. Not sure if it was simply a awesome day for fishing or this burley is a bomb. I'm a beginner and this is the first time I come back home with my bucket full of fish and different species. whatever was the reason, I'm very thankful for having this secret recipe in my arsenal now. Great channel, please keep it up.

Hi Dave. A most interesting video. Sixty years ago I was fishing the lakes and rivers of Essex and environs. Burley springs were called swim feeders in those days but they worked all right. I've made up some of your Burley springs and after a long break I'm back to my boyhood. Cheers and many thanks for all the info here. Alan H

Hi Mike, thank you for the comment mate and happy to help, I reckon you will like the burley. At the end of this video I forgot to mention or show how to mix some water into the burley mix to firm it up to squeeze into the burley spring most fishos do know about that but people totally new to fishing don't know that, my mistake only a couple of days ago I pinned and replied a message to jolly fresh in reference to that. Gee it will be nice over yorkes.....Cheers David.

Hi David, thank you, thank you, thank you, so much for all your fantastic videos and advice, it is of great value to us. We live on the midcoast SA and I have not been greatly into fishing until my young kids have gotten 'hooked' on fishing, they watch all your videos and have got me watching too. You are personally helping my family get out and about and get better at fishing and discovering all the possibilities and opportunities for fishing and squidding and getting or making bait in all the areas virtually on our back doorstep. I never took much notice or appreciated the beauty and abundance of our coast as I do now. There is so much to do and the kids love all of it, it feels like we are away on a holiday when we are out there. We are in debt to you, and cannot thank you enough.

I have always loved to give advise on fishing to people who have asked me for tips long before KZfaq, now I am doing KZfaq I have found it very satisfying the comments I get from people wanting fishing advise and even seasoned fishos are so nice. Saying I have helped you and you kids out in such away has blown me away you can't imagine how it has made me feel, it has defiantly struck a cord. Work has kept me quite busy at the moment, but I have certainly got a lot more fishing to do. Yes we are very lucky in Australia. Milk insted of paresan and cracked wheat in place of the curry. It was a dynamite burley and could be changes for any species. I am in Qld now and I really like your recipe.

1 second ago I can definitely say it works for Carp. I spent about 5 - 6 hour at Goolwa North using a similar burley and caught 33 carp. Largest was 72cm to the tip. They are really good fighters. I use the burley springs from the video you made and I think the trick is to cast into the same spot each time to maintain the burley concentration in that area. I have been making up the burley and putting smaller containers (enough for 1 fishing session) into the freezer. That works well also. I am also toying with the idea of using a diving weight and suspending in a bucket full of burley with water and freeze into a large burley icypole that will sink to the bottom when I'm fishing out to sea in the boat. should leave a nice trail of burley as it melt. But I don't think it will last to long before it is depleted. Great video again. Anyway, Merry Christmas and all the best for the new year to you also David.

Gday Cliff how ya going mate, yes spot on with the burley for carp especially bombarding the same area. Ive always just used heaps of bread crumbs for burley for carp not this one. I use to catch heaps for maggot food. like you say they are such good fun they do fight hard. freezing blended burley and sending it to the bottom works a treat also but yes take a good supply. thank you for your comment Cliff and you to Merry Christmas and a fantastic new year.

Thanks for your video David. Bought back a lot of memories for me. I use to make a similar burley with breadcrumbs, curry powder and a bit of water. Worked a treat for tommies at Port Giles jetty. That was 40 years ago. I'm now up in Qld. I've got a boat and I'm looking to target bream and whiting. What I don't want is for the burley to disappear as fast as I put it in the burley pot. I was thinking the solution might be to add extra fish oil, fill a burley pot with the mixture then put the pot in a plastic bag and freeze it. That way it will be a steady stream of burley as it thaws out. Your thoughts?
@davidsheldonfishing9726
@davidsheldonfishing9726 4 жыл бұрын
G'day Butt Fugly (funny) Gee I remember the Tommy Ruff days well Port Giles and Edithburge were two places that really produced a lot back in the days. Thats a great idea you have by filling your burly pot and freezing pryer to fishing, I sometimes have over filled my burley pot especially the small black ones with the screw on lid and the two rings come together to put the cord through, the burley has had trouble coming out because I haven't mixed with water before putting in and it swells up and blocked all the holes. So if you pree mix with water and yes a bit more oil would be nice it should work a treat. Well worth a try. all the best and good fishing. Cheers David. More videos coming when I'm not so busy.

Hi David, thanks for the recipe. I don't have tuna oil but was thinking about getting a tin of sardines in oil from the supermarket, mash the fish up and add fish pulp and oil to the mix. Would that work or is that gonna give an issue when drying the mix out? Thanks again
@davidsheldonfishing9726
@davidsheldonfishing9726 Жыл бұрын
Hi Bert, thats interesting the sardines in oil would surely attract fish if you used it as burley so if you was to mush it up and thoroughly mix with this burley mix instead of tuna oil and spread it out to dry I think it would dry and be ok, maybe make sure it is nice and warm not to cold like it has been lately so that the burley does dry properly also I would probably use 3 to 4 cans to make sure there is plenty of oily pilchard to mix through. I think that would work just fine Bert great idea but again just give it plenty of time to dry properly and you will have a very good burly mix and you will be very happy with the results.I have frozen maggots also pupa and put through my blender frozen and mixed with this burley and it has all dried fine and been really good when used, so great idea Bert. Hey Dave. How long do you leave the burley out to dry when you first make it, and then how long can it be stored? Does it need to be stored in an air tight container? I assume this would be good for Salmon?
@davidsheldonfishing9726
@davidsheldonfishing9726 Жыл бұрын
Hi Barry, when you make this burley can I suggest pick some nice weather so it dries 100% I will usually leave it spread out for 1 or 2 days and run my fingers through it every now and then to move it around. I also have put old frozen beach worms and frozen maggots also pupa through the blender and added to my burley thoroughly rubbed through and dried with the burley, the container I store mine in is just from a cheap as chips shop with a attachable lid but it isn't air tight and it keeps the burley very nice for a long long time so long as its dried properly. I have had it in my shed for over a year and it is fine, this burly would probably attract salmon but for them I'm happy to just use my home made burley spring with pilchard squashed into it like I show on my salmon videos or you could mix pilchards and bread together and use that. All the best with that Barry and yes this burley is well worth making.

Over here when I go mullet fishing of the beach I always like to use a burley bag or pot with bread and fish heads, that always attracts the mullet if they are around. and I use a burley spring for my other burley. The tuna oil made a figure of a person holding their hand up that kind of matched your comment. Haha. My pop always had loaves of bread hanging in an onion bag in the tree. That would keep the bread dry to crumble up for his mix. Mould and all.

I'm so glad you pointed that out thats cool you noticed that, I did and I showed the missus and others but never mentioned it on the comments, Great idea your pop had hanging the bread in a onion bag in the tree keep the animals off and dry good, save freezer space too I must try that. Hi David, can you list the ingredients of your berley !!
@davidsheldonfishing9726
@davidsheldonfishing9726 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Poh, the ingredients are bran, pollard, old bread blended into fine crumbs, garlic powder, aniseed, parmisan cheese, tuna oil, sugar and tuna oil. Have fun making it Poh and the fish love it and copy my instructions. Mix a small amount of water when you go fishing to help it bind together don't make it too sloppy. use in burly spring or throw little bits at a time.

Does this work for whiting
@davidsheldonfishing9726
@davidsheldonfishing9726 5 жыл бұрын
This burley will probably create a bit of interest for yellowfin and king George whiting, fish when hungry are curious and opportunist, it would be best to add cockle shells chopped prawn bits of worm crushed mussels even bits of squid things they feed on. For king George you can add pilchard too they love pilchard also for them a burley pot on the bottom if in a boat.

@davidsheldonfishing9726

That will be fine, It will create a different smell and make the fish curious if its yellowfin whiting you are after you can put a bit of sand in there too. Hope you get onto a few fish. If there are any Tommy ruff or mullet around it will most defiantly bring them around.

I own a fly rod but haven't used it yet, given the opportunity I would so yes take it along and have a go with it for sure, good practice, use flys that imitate small fish and slowly retreive back. I have found callop like the coulor yellow and red fin love eating there own young so flys in the coulor of red fin would be a good choice also same coulors for lures. I would even use a hook and bait i.e. bread flake, worm, corn and whatever you may find around the dam. There are no rules have fun with whatever. Go and catch some fish. Cheers David

What you are doing sounds good I don't know much about English salt water fish, but yes mix up the left over bait what you catch the fish on with bread or a mix of bread and bran or pollard. bran and pollard doesn't cost much. work around 50\50 and you are in business. I forgot to say at the end of this video to add a bit of water and mix thoroughly to combine it so you can squeeze it into your burley spring not to much water or it will be too sloppy.
