Not at all ... It definitely tastes bitter in its own ...but when added to plum cake batter in the right proportion, it lends a beautiful depth of flavour and a hint of bitterness which is well balanced by the sweetness of the fruit mix

I make my own caramel - tastes better than the molasses used in bakeries. I add a couple of teaspoons of oil and 1 teaspoon of butter - to a batch of burnt sugar made from 500g of sugar. It stores well for upto a year, if it lasts!😊

It would definitely look and smell like you may have burnt it, but keep calm and keep going ... 😃 Blackjack is meant to be dark and bitter.

same problem mine is not developing color..i made it 5- 6 times one time it darkened .. n d cake was bitter in taste😣😣plz sugest a soln

hi bubble 'wild' is an understatement, it ran over and all over the gas and platform in seconds. Had to switch off the flame. Waiting for it cool now...hey i hope it wont harden before i can transfer....it happened with another recipe that had lemon....trying your since it is No-fail

Thank you ... Glad you found it simple and easy..do try and lemme know how it turned out. Remember to reduce the time accordingly if doing smaller batches. Just keep an eye on the changes as mentioned

That looks lovely.....as u mentioned in the comments below that itncan be stored for about 2 years. Would this be at room temp or refregrated? Thank u

Thank you :) It can be stored at room temperature away from sunlight. Always make sure to use a dry spoon or ladle when scooping out caramel for use

I had ordered plum cake which was overly bitter and the lady tells me that plum cake is usually bitter and is not a sweet cake. I think a strong dose of caramel was used which made it inedible 😢

If made to the right consistency, it can be used directly. Incase the caramel gets too thickened, then you can reheat slightly with a bit of water.

Indefinitely ... I have stored my batches for upto two years ensuring it's stored in a cool.place and not using wet spoons etc when taking some out of the container

Yes, the decorated cake can be stored in the fridge. Make sure to seal it well inside a box

It stays indefinitely if stored well ... When I make big batches, the remainder has lasted for over two years before it gets fully used up

If stored in a cool, dry environment, it will last several years. Make sure to use a clean dry spoon everytime you want to use it. Moisture makes it spoil faster

For over a year in a cool dry place. I'm assuming it would last longer too however I end up utilising it each year and make fresh batches

plclarify. After storing in a bottle , the syrup will it not get solidified after long storing in a refrigirator. say a month.

If you're have followed the measurements and timings as mentioned , it will stay in molten state itself ..easily pourable. This can be stored at room temperature itself
