Do you find a rubber mallet helps to get cleaner breaks on the ice? We just tap the serrated knife on the score with a big muddler to break it apart, but it often crates irregular breaks and ruins a lot of the cubes' shapes.

Hello and Happy New Year! We live in Fairbanks Alaska and I want to make 100-200lb blocks of clear ice to carve and I want to do it using the natural outside freezer that is our winter -0º to -35ºF. As I understand it, we need to keep some part of the mold(cooler) warmer than the the top. Would an old refrigerator work the same as your cooler? I would line it with plastic and use circulating pumps. Thank you for your video and I look forward to hearing from you soon. Cheers!

Hello! I've been looking for methods for making block ice at home for my ice bath. Rather than buying bag ice every day, or freezing tons of small cubes in a bunch of ice trays. I noticed you used a cooler which I suspect will hold up longer than other options I've seen where people use thin plastic food bowls with lids. Do you know of a way to make solid block ice in this cooler where it freezes completely solid? I don't need it to be clear or anything, just a big chunk of ice to place in an ice bath tub. Also, do you recommend these coolers for long term use by freezing and refreezing over and over? Do you think they will hold up better than other options without cracking and breaking? Thank you! Awesome video by the way, take care!

Hello! what is the frozen temperature? my home freezer have -15, -18...-32
@iceventura8140
@iceventura8140 2 жыл бұрын
Hi! The temp on this freezer is -20 degrees celcius. My best advice is to do a test how the cooler/water freezes in YOUR freezer and really get to know it. Then I guarantee you that the result will be perfect in the long run as long its below -10 degrees celcius. :) Good luck!

Hello. If the frezing starts from det bottom with isolaited sides and top, the air bubles will not go upp? Is that correct. If have that that test. Regards Piera :)
@iceventura8140
@iceventura8140 2 жыл бұрын
You can use that technique but important that the lid isnt to close to the water and also that the water is circulating. If not you will "trap" the oxygen/bubbles and the ice will get cloudy. :) If you will test your theory please let me know the result mate. :)

So do you need to freeze it with the lid off ?

Yes, I would recommend to freeze without the lid.

When doing this do you need to fill the whole cooler with water or can it be halfway
@iceventura8140
@iceventura8140 Жыл бұрын
It can be halfway but bare in mind the freezing time will be alot shorter than 24h. The key is NOT to let it freeze all the way through.

@@5part4 Sounds good. Bar ein mind that this time frame depend on how cold your freezer is. Do a test and check the cooler every 6 hours and get a feel for how YOUR freezers and cooler works.

Once you have made clear ice, it will always maintain clear. Maybe a bit frosty on the surface after a while but the core will maintain the same. :)

@@5part4 When it comes to chosing knife it totally a matter of taste and personal feel. Some people like a 37 layer damaskus steel super knife while another guy is more than happy with a $5 bread knife from amazon. www.amazon.com/HUMBEE-Chef-BK_Bl-Stainless-Serrated/dp/B07ZJXVMNV?ref_=Oct_d_odotd_d_5_53f10d7b&pd_rd_w=N4YDi&content-id=amzn1.sym.cb04a5b7-3f95-491b-870a-80c67d985924&pf_rd_p=cb04a5b7-3f95-491b-870a-80c67d985924&pf_rd_r=66PB6Z5PDSEWBZH7M5GX&pd_rd_wg=9OOwc&pd_rd_r=91f10092-7cce-46e2-8579-cff5b4f51c05 I would recommend a knife with a bit higher quality and a blade thats stiff, hard and really sharp. Oof, if you have people over for drinks or dinner, nice statement pieces that will have people remembering. Bnus points, if you go to Chick-fil-A for some nugget ice. Makes the lemonades and sodas look tasty in any weather.
