3g | 0.1oz BTMS-50 emulsifying wax (other complete emulsifying waxes should work as well; though maybe not EWax NF. Do not use beeswax or BTMS-25!)

3g | 0.1oz castor oil
1g | 0.03oz vitamin E oil
50g |1.76oz just-boiled water
15g | 0.53oz vegetable glycerin
24g | 0.85oz apple cider vinegar
1g | 0.03oz phytokeratin (optional)
1/2 tsp silk peptides (optional)
20 drops grapefruit essential oil (pink or white)
10 drops pine, spruce, or fir essential oil
5 drops cardamom essential oil
Broad spectrum preservative of choice (Keep scrolling for more links on preservatives)

Hello Marie, my name is Alkisti, I am from Greece, and I have been watching you for a long time, trying to do what you do. So, I tried to make this conditioner, and I did! Some notes: 1. The vinegar smells too much, I couldn't cover up the smell with the 35 drops of essential oils, I put around 40-45. (I know I shouldn't change the analogies). 2. I replaced BTMS with OLIVEM1000 (I can't find BTMS in Greece), and it worked out perfectly. I was afraid it wouldn't be stable (as I have read online), but it is just fine, and not greasy at all. So, thank you so much!

I absolutely love your recipe. The second time i made it i made some changes. I actually used behentrimonium 250 instead of bmts 50. For essential oils i used ylang ylang and bergamont. It smells awesome. People keep asking me what i do to my hair since it looks much healthier and smoother and i told them i used the Beebee recipes. That's what my little one calls you. We love to watch the recipes on the big TV.

ok so, i almost gave up on making my own conditioner until i found this video. i honestly dont know how i miss this one. i binge watch/read your videos and blog all the time.lol anyways, i finally know now what emulsifier works best thanks to you. i was using regular ewax at first. i just bought some btms50 too thank goodness.lol i was wondering, what can i do if i dont have those essential oils? i have a very small collection I've started but just not these one you use. i know i can probably use what i have, but would i add the amount of all your put together? or just to my preference of sent? i hope im making sense.lol im just still fairly new to this and after seeing so many different ways of making conditioners, im overwhelmed and confused a bit. just because some recipes use e/o for preference and others are a vital ingredient to the recipe.

Hey Kat! You can really use whatever EOs you want to-perhaps do some research into ones that are good for your hair (dry/curly/oily/etc.) and go from there. I'd probably aim for approximately the same amount I used, but definitely trust your nose as your guide :) Happy making!

ok so i’m not sure if you’ve addressed this, i can’t seem to find it (but i could be missing something).. the amount of essential oil/fragrance and silk peptide are by drops/tablespoons instead of calculated grams - do those not need to be measured exactly like the other ingredients? why? thank you, you’re lovely and wonderful and have seriously created an obsession for me here 😝

Hey! So, there is some more flexibility with those ingredients. For the silk; a bit more or less won't break it, and for the EOs, most people do not own a scale precise enough to weigh them out. I have been doing everything in weights/percentages more recently, but this is an older recipe :)

Have you ever made detangling spray?
@HumblebeeAndMe
@HumblebeeAndMe 5 жыл бұрын
I have, but I haven't shared anything. You basically want to make a spray with water, 2-3% cetrimonium chloride (check usage rates from your supplier as dilutions vary, so 2-3% may not be correct), and a preservative. Happy making!

love your videos! question for u: do i need preservatives when making a castille soap + oils/butters body wash? what about a water + very little castille soap + essential oils? I've been playing with making my own natural cosmetics but the whole preservatives thing is confusing and overwhelming. oh, and did i say how much i love your videos?

Thanks! Your questions would be best answered by reading through my series of articles on them (www.humblebeeandme.com/?s=preservative)-that will be much more thorough than any KZfaq comment could be!

Thanks for your response! Prior to posting my question i did loads of reading, like up until 3 am reading and researching until my brain was about to explode, but could not find an answer. When i google "should i use a preservative when using castille soap" I get no answer. The recipe is basically 8oz water, 1oz castille and essential oils. If u could please let me know I'd appreciate it. Or point me to where i can get a clear answer. Thanks so much for all you do!
@HumblebeeAndMe
@HumblebeeAndMe 7 жыл бұрын
Soap is self preserving on its own, but something that heavily diluted should have one. The question isn't really "should i use a preservative when using castille soap", it's "should i use a preservative when using water", which is likely why you didn't get an answer that was clear :) Many things do not require a preservative if pure (soap, salt, honey, sugar), but require a preservative when mixed with water!

how can you go about making sure that the conditioner doesnt melt or go bad after youve made it cause i would get worried of making the conditioner and it would do that if i had it in the bathroom. ive been doing a plain yogurt and clover honey conditioner recipe which is good, i just get worried about it melting and going bad and i keep thinking if it was better if i kept it in the fridge.

It doesn't melt because it's an emulsion, and it doesn't go bad because we include a broad spectrum preservative :)

Hi Marie!! Question for you - I am trying to avoid ACV because I am blond and I'm afraid my hair will be darker if I use it. I have been using water with a little citric acid as my acidic rinse, which works well, but I really want to try using a proper conditioner. Do you think I could omit the ACV and add a little citric acid instead? Thanks!!

Not really, they're very different, with totally different solubility. You could try swapping out 1 or 2g of the oil for an equal amount of a silicone, and the silk is optional, but that wouldn't really be a substitute, just a change :)

As somebody who doesn't have coloured hair it's hard for me to say. It shouldn't cause colour to fade as it should seal the hair shaft down, locking it in, but that's just hypothesis.

can i use emulsifying wax instead of BTMS? also i dont have silk availalble anytime soon!
@HumblebeeAndMe
@HumblebeeAndMe 8 жыл бұрын
Maybe? "Emulsifying wax" isn't an ingredient, it's a very broad term for a wide variety of similar products that do similar things, and there are a bunch of different kinds, some of which will work, and some won't. Readers have reported that E-Wax NF and Emulsimulse don't work particularly well in this project, though I've only tried BTMS-50. You can definitely make it without silk, though! If you check the description box below the video all of this is written out there as well :)
