Love that butcher block. As a new wood worker, I’ve always been intimidated by cabinet making. You make it look so easy! Watching your videos gives me the courage to at least give it a try. Thank you sir for another great video.

DIY is a bit of a stretch with all the tools you used... this is a professionally equipped workshop... yes I’m jealous...
@PilotJirons
@PilotJirons 5 жыл бұрын
Equipped? Maybe. He definitely didn't use the tools of a professionally equipped woodworkers shop. He used a kreg jig instead of a pocket hole drill machine. He used a circular saw to cut lines that cabinet makers use table saws. Woodworking isn't a cheap hobby but he definitely is showing you how to do everything on the cheaper end of the spectrum.

J Iron I think the only thing that takes this slightly out of the DIY arena is the planer he used for the table top.
@jRising
@jRising 5 жыл бұрын
I never used one but I’m pretty sure that unit he used was $500 or more.
@PilotJirons

@@jRising To be fair any level of precise woodworking requires a planer. $500 for a planer is really on the cheap end of the spectrum too.
@julianvidal7361
@julianvidal7361 5 жыл бұрын
@@jRising I bought mine used for $150. Changed the blades and was good to go. I get about 2 inches of snipe which can be avoided using a couple of tricks like running a board beside the one you are planing or leaving extra material. You can get a hand electric planer like the WEN for under $100 or you can even plane it by hand like some people do (I'm definitely into power tools for this kind of thing). All the tools he used can be bought super cheap used. Where I live in Canada you can get pretty much every single tool in the video (used) for under $500. Compare that to the price you'd pay for a professional install. For this kind of application, the quality is not in the tools -in my opinion-, it's in the hands of the craftsman!

Reallly nice simple video on how to build cabinets that's not 90 minutes long. I tried building an aquarium stand with maple plywood from Lowes. The plywood was straight thanks to its large size but then was warped when I cut it into smaller pieces. And doing the veneer on the edges requires a good veneer edge cutter and a steady hand. All good!

Wonderful photos & videos shots with excellent narration; glad you had all the woodworking tools available. Suggestion: as a prior homeowner, I would have put in slide out drawers, instead of wide shelf & bottom shelf under that beautiful butcher block top... otherwise items just get "never looked at or used" that are in the back of those low shelves.

Kids toys and shoes and stuff and you my fruend have just inspired me to build a custom built cabinet for our living room. Infact first thing monday morning im heading over to my local diy store (Homebase or B&Q in the UK) and picking up a few sheets of 18mm ply board and starting the build when the kids go back to school. man im so excited now. Thank you so much! I have been wanting to do a custom peninsula for my home, so I priced it and most of the pros around here are insane with what they are asking. A $200 prefabbed peninsula installed brings the total to $2800. I think I'd rather put in the elbow grease and build it myself. Then I will get the storage I need and the counter top I want, and won't have to spend so much on it.

Looks great man. One finishing touch that would have added is if you used solid wood for the drawers instead of plywood. That way you don't see the plywood layers when you open your drawer. Still a good project.
