Personally I put things like Panthenol, gums, and other powders in the glycerin/glycerol first as I find that makes it easier for me to evenly disperse the powder and break up any clumps! But I haven't worked with cocamidopropyl betaine before so don't know if that's contraindicated, or if it's just a preference thing. I'd love to see more things aimed at sensitive skin and common skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis: currently near the end of formulating a cream for my own psoriasis, and looking at the options for a Hydromol ointment-consistency butter+wax hard ointment ^_^

You could do that here, but since there's only one powdered ingredient in this formulation and it is readily water soluble I didn't find it to be necessary at all. I would definitely do that with a gum, though :) Did you notice I did an entire "soothing" series? There's quite a lot in there for sensitive skin :)

@@HumblebeeAndMe Yes I did! I love it! I also have my finished product btw, lovely thick consistency with some great ingredients and just a touch of Blue Tansy (which isn't far off Yarrow Blue price-wise in England)

Yes, I rarely use bar soap these days due to the high pH, and I find my hands are much happier, especially through the winter. They used to be extremely dry but that isn't the case anymore!

Hey you mentioned in encyclopedia of Sodium C 14-16 OS : Do you need this? Your ans was: No preferring Sodium Coco Sulfate and SCI. And in substitution you have mentioned solid avionic surfactant SLSa. In India, we don't get the above SC14-16OS..what from above three SCS ,SCI and SLSa shall I choose as best replacement and in how much percentage?

I typically keep my expensive things in the fridge-things like hydrosols, HA solution, expensive actives, that sort of thing :)

Bioterge is the brand name, the INCI is Sodium C14-16 Olefin Sulfonate, and it is a surfactant.

I'm a soap maker that is just getting into learning some of the wonderful things you make. Is it possible to make a lotionesk hand soap (similar to what you find in stores) with actual liquid soap or do those always need to be surfactant based?

I believe it is, yes, though I haven't tried it. You will very likely need to preserve the mixture with a high-pH tolerant preservative given the soap is going to be quite diluted :)

Can I use this recipe with different active ingredients to make a foaming shampoo? Also I have a huge question I’ve had for a while for which I cannot find any answer and I’d be so happy if you could help me! I’m basically wondering if I can use just one type of surfactant (I currently only have cocamidopropyl betaine) to make shampoo, hand/body wash etc. Or do I need two? All recipes I saw so far always call for two and I wonder if that’s necessary?!

How do I make this a no rinse hand wash?

From my understanding a no-rinse hand wash is a pretty darn different product-with foaming products like this the rinse is a big part of what makes it an effective way to get germs & viruses off your hands (leaving it on would also be very sticky & possibly irritating). If you want to make a hand sanitizer I'd refer you to the WHO's formulations at www.who.int/gpsc/5may/Guide_to_Local_Production.pdf.
