How to make ● gliding fabric panels instead of curtains

Instead of curtains, think outside the box with these sliding panels that function easily like a sliding barn door. These are a great window covering alternative and glide open very smoothly. Curtains can be boring but these sliding window panels add a different and pleasing look to a room. Easy to make and install using drawer slides. Any fabric you like can be attached to the panels. Curtains, say good bye!

Same!! Have you attempted it yet? I was looking at all the sliding panels on amazon for a while and i had a moment of “waaaait a second… this isn’t adding up… seems like the cost is way higher than the value i’d get out of it 🧐” i looked at the materials & sliding track specs and uhhhhh….. i think i could make a better solution for less?? idk but the panels were made of really low quality materials in all the ones i checked out, & i wasn’t crazy about any of the colors/designs offered. Plus, the track systems they come with are less than ideal, to say the least, for my closet (and probably others? idk). I mean the “adjustable” sliding tracks seem ironically limited in installation options - well, for my closet & personal requirement for it to work decently anyway. 😂 I’m preeeetty sure a lot of the sliding tracks i saw were just marketed as ‘fancy’ or ~hi-tech~ systems to make the prices look right 🤦🏻‍♀️ (& tbh they don’t seem great for some of the uses advertised, like closets but what do i know) Anywho, have you found other useful vids for the the concept? Any advice would be appreciated, but if not no worries!!☺️

@@phoebe9142 so I'm not done yet but I had wooden bifold doors already. I removed the slats and hinges so I had 4 wood frames. I'm putting two bypass sliding doors back to back and putting them all up so they can all slide behind eachother tucked away!

Thanks! Good idea. FYI, for others who might like to copy this design, you could achieve full view by using "full extension" drawer glides.

Chris, this is fantastic! This is exactly what I needed for my narrow entryway which has a 7" depth x 7' wide recess. I plan to make the wall our shoe/bag/etc functional space, but thinking thinking thinking on how to disguise this wall. I have scoured everything on youtube and images, and this is the BEST, simplest, and most doable. Very clever! I'm going out to Home Depot to get the drawer tracks now! Thank you sooo much!

The outside measurements of my opening are 76" W X 82" L using the same size wood, do you think the weight would still be ok? I plan on using a light fabric as well

Hi Chris, I’m about six years behind you. I want to try mounting my sliding track from the bottom. What do you think-any reason it wouldn’t work?
@chrisnotap
@chrisnotap 3 жыл бұрын
With it at the top, the frames are hanging. At the bottom, the frames would tip over and twist the slider.

I've seen this video many times and have wanted to do it for several years... now I THINK I'm ready. When I look at drawer slides though, they don't seem to be long enough to work, but I don't know!!! I don't think my windows are any wider than yours (they're a bit taller, but that shouldn't matter), so I don't know how far to expect them to move back when open, if that makes any sense. What size slides did you use? Thanks!
@chrisnotap
@chrisnotap 4 жыл бұрын
These are all good questions. My window size, including the window trim, is 69" x 43" ( 175cm x 109cm ). The panels I made cover the window trim. The drawer slide size I bought were 21" ( 53cm ). Measuring from the centre of the window with both closed together, and then sliding one of them open, it will open 22" ( 55cm ). If both are opened it would open a total of 44". You can buy these slides at Home Depot. I think the biggest size they sell is 21" or 22". Here is a link to them on the Canadian Home Depot web site:www.homedepot.ca/product/richelieu-22-inch-side-mount-soft-closing-full-extension-drawer-slides-2-pack-/1001066217. You could also search the company that makes them. They do make longer ones. They're made by a company called "Richelieu". FYI: 1) If you have pictures on the wall beside the window, the panels will hit the picture. 2) if you have a breeze coming in the window the panel will make a noise and rattle against the bottom guide that I show in the video and if you make them without the guide, the panel will blow in and out and eventually possibly pull the drawer guide off the wall. The window we have this on is never open for air. Hope that helps. Good luck.
