Homemade Apple Cider Vinegar is easy to make using whole apples or apple scraps. Whole apples will produce a slightly richer tasting vinegar, but both produce a quality product.
When you get ready to make a second batch of apple cider vinegar, save a bit of your original batch and add it to the second batch to help kickstart the growth of the yeast and good bacteria.

Hi Mary, I'm proud to announce that my gson nominated u as the sweetest gmother (to my chagrin of course) but he almost snatched the title back because he left the room but reentered at the point when u were demonstrating with the blue canister how it could b used...I observed him growing increasing anxious, until finally he blurted out, "she cremated her own mother at home?" Oh it gave me such a bellyaching augh😃😆😅😅😅 I'm like what? He goes, "u aren't paying attn, she put her mother in the blue urn!" I had to reassure him it was Not ur mother but rather the fermentation of yeast & bacteria in acv. Btw, love your ever so sunny disposition

The apples can be used to make fermented apple juice by juicing some fresh apples and adding the juice to the fermented apples and ferment for 2-3 days and then strain and keep in the fridge. Reuse the apples continously to make more vinegar or grind up and make a lovely apple cake or apple pudding

Hinterland has updated TLD recently and it's really grown a lot. What I love about is there are no monsters just you, the wolves, the COLD. Hunting, fishing...There are some things I find amusing such as edible cat tail stalks in the dead of winter but the solitude and beauty are astounding. I have watched others in YT play Civilization but TLD is the one im really interested in😁Sorry for overloading with so many comments but this channel cest bon I gauronteee!

I been wanting to know about this for a long time. When i was a child my grandmother had one, haha, she kept it under the bed, once a year she would take out this huge glass jar strained and bottle out the vinegar, put back the mother with sugar and some sort of liquid. now i think maybe it was water. and back under the bed it goes. we always had really nice vinegar in at our house. I never knew where that gel like thing came from or what it was, but it always caught my attention, all i knew is that i wanted to get one so i can make my own vinegar. Thank you so much, and i am on my way to trying this out. I can hardly wait to see the end results.

Last fall, while attempting to make muscadine wine, something went wrong and I had 5 gallons of very tasty vinegar. I was surprised at how good it tasted that it worried me that it may not be safe, because store bought organic apple vinegar is not tasty at all to me. It also has layers and layers of clear jelly mother in each container. It never went cloudy, is that ok? I love the way you have the attitude of, "Do the best you can with what you have". I also love that you answer the "why", questions that I have had such as the 'stir, not stir' and the 'weigh it down' debate. I watch and love Heidi at Rain Country too.

Hi Mary, thank you for walking us through this process. I so appreciate all your videos!!! I've always wondered how to do this, and now I do! However, I just finished the apple scrap method with 30 days of stirring (twice a day) and adding organic white sugar (three times-maybe too much?); but even at a pH of 3.6 it smells and tastes more like beer then vinegar! I did gather apple scraps over several weeks and kept them in a bag in the freezer until I was ready to use them. I also went large and used a gallon size jar filled to the shoulders, and coffee filter cover. They broke down so much it looked like floating applesauce! Can you tell me what I might have done wrong? I'm still hoping it will grow a mother and work out ok. Any help is great!! Thank you sweet lady! Your demeanor is always so encouraging.❤️💙🧡💜💛💗❣️

Hi Mary! Love your videos. I have learned so much from them. Thank you. Re: apple scraps, if we don't have enough scraps at one time can we freeze them until we have accumulated a big enough mass to make the vinegar? Or if we use whole apples, can they have some bruises on them or will that affect the fermentation process. Thanks so much! (ps: I almost gave up on sourdough bread until I watched your video, not it's a family favourite!)

Wonderful Videod/Explanation Mary. Thank you. Question to you and folks in the thread: I can't have sugar. What occurs to the sugar during the fermentation process? Thank you.
@MarysNest
@MarysNest 4 жыл бұрын
Hope others will chime in bus basically the sugar feeds the yeast and bacteria. They will most likely eat it all and in the process take the apple-water mixture from a mild alcohol to a vinegar. So there really isn't any sugar left in the end. However, that said, you can use very sweet apples that have a lot of natural fruit sugar and leave out the addition of white sugar. There may be enough natural fruit sugar in the apples to kick start the process. It's definitely worth a try. Keep me posted. Love, Mary

Just wanted to know if the jelly like substance that formed is the mother that you described?? as i kept the stuff for around 6 weeks plus before i got down to decanting it. Hi Mary! I recently found your channel and since has literally made everything homemade! Your videos are SO informative 😍 I do have a question though - I just finished my first batch of ACV and even though my ph is at 3.0 it tastes more like beer than it does vinegar. Did I do something wrong or is that closer to what homemade ACV tastes like?

We have so Many Apple tree’s in our house and I always have been worried what to do with so many, I live in germany and here they sell the Apple cider vinegar from Bragg for about 30€ per litre. So I find that a little too expensive, I googled a recipe how to make acv and then I stumped with ur video and yea, the same day I saw it the same day I did it, now I’m really happy and excited to do my own first acv. ( I love selfmade everything) thanks so Much God bless u Mary

I let mine go 6-8 weeks, mine taste just like braggs. It’s not sweet at all however 30 days later it is still. I always use a started from my previous batch.

Hi Mary, my husband and I love you, your channel and your amazing recipes! Thank you! We're at day 31 and ready to decant; however, the acv looks more like apple sauce. Do you know why it broke down so much? (I stirred it once per day). It has a ph of 3.5 and smells great. I put it in a cheesecloth over a strainer and it is difficult to get the vinegar out. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Lorie

Thank you so much for the kind words!! So glad you’re here. Don’t worry. Your ACV turned out great. The Apples can break down...but strain it through a mesh strainer lined with cheesecloth or a Flour sack towel. Allow it plenty of time to drain and you’ll have great ACV. Love, Mary
