HOW TO MAKE HOMEMADE COCONUT MILK: Finding guar gum-free and carrageenan-free coconut milk can be difficult, and when you do find it, it can be expensive. Instead, make your own coconut milk! This way you can control what goes into it. In this video, I show you how to make your own homemade coconut milk.
This coconut milk is helpful if you're on the Autoimmune Paleo Protocol (AIP diet) because you cannot have coconut milk with any preservatives like guar gum, but also if you think guar gum or carrageenan cause you any issues like digestive upset or brain fog (which is quite common).
I even show you what to do with the pulp - to make a ricotta cheese-like substance that I like to snack on.

Great now I don't have to search for AIP compliant coconut milk! I think I may have to get some alcohol free vanilla extract so I can add it to this milk!

How do you get the pulp out of the coconut? I like the milk with the pulp as a drink.

You strain it, but you don't have to if you want the pulp in it. You can use a bigger hole strainer - like a wire mesh sieve if you want some pulp but not ALL the pulp.

Hmm, good question. I've never tried doing that and now you've got me thinking, haha! I'd imagine you probably could, though it might not be as strong of a flavor as the flour has been dried/processed further than shredded coconut. And you might have to add some coconut oil or something to give it a bit of fat as well. So not going to say no - but just not sure at all how it would turn out!

The only thing I hate about home making coconut milk is it has to go all over your hands and to me ones hands are never clean enough. Also, I wonder if making coconut milk and amount is actually cheaper than buying it? Organic coconut powder; two cup fulls alot and powder mix won't lasting up against how many two cups of coconut milk powder can one get from bag weight and cost to making how much litres againt cost of supermarket per litre cost? Does the effort pan out to be worth it? Hmm!!!

It is not coconut powder but shredded coconut, which is a lot less inexpensive than the powder. I live in France, coconut flakes in bulk store cost 9.5-ish euros per kg, from which I usually make around 10 litres of milk. Compared to that, to buy rich good quality coconut milk in a can (400 ml) is 2.5 euros - that's more than 5 euros per litre. For me it is totally worth it, but check with your local stores, how much coconut milk prices compare to coconut flake prices :)) good luck~~

Are using dry desiccated coconut. I've never seen shredded fresh ones.

@@itsmeagain6407 don't worry, things like this happen and it's in the past! We take it out just because it can cause some pathogenic bacteria to thrive and can also cause digestive distress in some people. If after you go through the elimination portion of the diet you try the guar gum and have no issues, I think it's ok to keep in. But don't worry about having had it - it's not like it's prevented you from healing!
