How to build diy fishing jugs for catfishing using foam pool noodles, pvc and bottle jugs. The jug line technique has been used for many years using standard jugs and bottles, but now there is a way to build strike indicating float jug that show when a catfish has grabbed the line. Since I am building these for the first time, I will be showing you how to tie the fishing knots and what line to use as well and how this technique works. Happy fishing!

Tim Ellison putting together fishing noodles for catfish on Cherokee lake . update , I used 15 inch noodles with 20 inch pvc , I had to extend the pvc pipe another 7 inches to counter the noodle so it would float upright also i used 9 inch rebar for more counter weight , after I wrote my info on the noodle I used clear box tape on the noodle to seal the markings , after the first morning of use I'm going to use smaller line with only about 5 feet of line , this setup did not work with the thick line , we caught no fish on the noodles and three on jugs , when i change this they will work fine.

This video is long, but covers a lot of good information. I cover 3 types of jugs and go over various techniques to consider when building your own.
One thing I never mentioned is what bait I use and where I place my jugs. Hands down bar none fresh caught shad have resulted in best success, if I cant find any "winter time" ill use frozen shad. 2nd favorite bait to use are hot dogs...I've tried livers, gizzards, bacon, worms, soap, perch, premade Walmart bait, minnows, gold fish, and guts. If I don't know where to lay jugs "never fished an area" i'll start by watching the top of the water. Find the shad and you'll find the catfish. Fish drop offs where water goes from 15-20ft and to 30-50ft. Try to place jugs on that "lip".

Things you'll need to build 20 jugs.
*Braided Nylon 100-180lb test for mainline...1000ft
*Braided/Twisted Nylon 60-80lb test for leaders...150-200ft...Cut 11.5" long
*Circle Hooks "I use Eagle Claw 6/0 Kahle Hooks"...40-120
*Barrel Swivels " I use Eagle Claw Size 5"... 40-120
*Barrel Swivel w/interlock snap "I use Eagle Claw Size 5"... 20-25
*3/8" inside diameter plastic tubing "soft pvc hose"... 25 feet..Cut 3.25" long
*Foam Noodles "Big or Small Pool Ones" ... 5-6
*1/2"-1" Depending on Noodle inside diameter...4x 10ft pvc sticks
*1/2"-1" 20x PVC End Caps
*1/2"-1" 20x PVC T's
*Reflective Tape "optional"
*40-50lb Bag on Concrete for Weights
*Roll of Heavy duty Wire or Metal Clothes Hangers for Weights
* Trotline Clips... 20-25.
*Dixie Cups or Red Solo Cups for weights
Tools you'll need
*Lighter
*Drill with 7/32"-1/4" depending on mainline width
*Pliers
*Scissors
*PVC Glue or T's and End Caps
*Saw to Cut PVC and Noodles

Used your method and dropped 6 of them this afternoon. Came back this evening to a nice 33lb cat on one of them. This jug line worked excellent for me!

Make the pipe 24" and foam 12" and 6" slide rebar and it will stand up when a strike or fish hits it.

mule spur i have some ones I built before these with that design but I find they don’t set off all the time.

You can tell if you have a fish on with the plain noodles. I have made ones like that but I have found that they are not worth it. You can’t throw them out because they will tip up so that is another disadvantage

@@LouisianaOutdoorsmen Mine work, I used the design cotontop uses in hid video and they almost always set off. I think when they don't and I have a fish on it's because the fish never dove deep for whatever reason. Other times I'm guessing turtles or whatever else nibbled the bait off.

That's the goal, many people don't know how fun running jugs can be and exciting as well. I now have deep and shallow jugs so I'm good for a while!

I'm gonna try something different on my new ones I'll see if i can rig it up to make the hook adjustable where i can fish any depth. Itll definitely be interesting lol

Hello, great video. Can you provide a supply list or specifically the ratings on the tar dipped nylon string? I searched Amazon and there are different types. Thanks!

I use the tar dipped catahoula manufacture string, not sure on the size I use. I don’t buy it based on a specific strength. It’s more so making sure it will fit three the eye of the hook or swivel more than the strength.

I think the only thing I'm gonna do differently on mine is switching to a Carolina rig with a 3oz weight, that way when I wrap them up and store them I won't have to worry about the extra stage line getting tangled. Fill your PVC halfway full of water with your rebar and try that it works great

I made a whole new set that doesn’t have anything in them, I lose them so often down here it’s not worth it anymore

Yours is the first video that I watched it didn't have a weight on the inside of the pvc. Like a piece of rebar. Another guy filled his PVC halfway with water. It helped stand straight up when there was a fish on.

Never, the end caps stop it from slipping off

Dwane Cummings pvc is 3/4” and I don’t use anything but tar dipped nylon but not sure the size of the nylon but as long as it’s tar dipped your good

Also if you go to home depot or lowes and get a big piece of rebar and cut off 1 inch pieces and put them inside of the tubes they act as a weight. So when you have a fish or a turtle on the line it will make your jug stand up straight instead of laying flat. You will know if it stands up you have something. What gets confuseing to me I go all over Louisiana and everyone goes a different depth on the line , some add weights and some don't. I guess its trial and error. I've seen some without a weight but go throw 12 feet of line. Also you can buy them made already on ebay with or without weights search catfish juggin. Not to bad prices some even come with line and hooks already on them. Guillot Paranormal Investigations I have some jugs with rebar in them just line you mentioned, but I made these different. I actually added more line to them since this video and heavier weights

@@LouisianaOutdoorsmen like your channel its good to see a Louisiana channel for once. Ive lived all over Louisiana my entire life and hunted and fished most of it. Lived half my life in the country, lived in the bayou for awhile now the city now (unfortunately) lol. That will change again one day. Now i have long drives to hunt and fish.

Went to Grand chenier Joseph harbor Saturday Caught a couple of black drum about 100 crabs no red fish they put a bunch of rocks at the mouth of the Canal Down the coast and up the coast added to the rocks that was already there really messed up the fishing there

Yeah, I have no clue what they trying to do with that area. it seems like they are always working on a project that affects the fishing and crabbing. I will probably be making a trip down there in a month or so once it heats up and the water gets more stable.

When you ride out in the gulf At the mouth of the canalyou’re not gonna recognize it It’s got a continuous rock jetty as far as the eye could see down the bank there’s a couple of spots where you could and I tried to get behind the jetties but I ran aground on rocks really screwed up the fishing

Todd Atteberry & wife !! I’ll keep that in mind, since I have a smaller boat I rather go to rollover. A lot less traffic and people. I like going to Rockefeller during the week if I have time available.
