How to make LOG SPLITTER (screw).

In this video I show how to make a screw log splitter. Learn how to split logs easily and quickly, without back pain.
If you want your machine to work efficiently use at least a 2,5kW motor (it would be desirable 4kw).
I used 3kW/1400rpm motor i had in my possession for some time.
Drill(screw) was made by a local workshop in my town, which dimensions are 230x90mm (9x3,5inch).
Axle which the drill is attached to is 30mm (1,2inch) in diameter.
Smaller pulley that goes on the motor is 80mm (3inch) and the big one is 180mm (7inch) in diameter.
Weight of the whole machine is about 60kg (132 pounds).

I made this machine too. I used 3 phase 400V 1957 motor with gearbox from 1450 rpm to 360 rpm. This beast never stopped even when splitting 75 cm in diameter logs. It's much faster and reliable than hydraulic ones.

I'm glad you liked the video. Well, I don't think there are any significant differences. A three-phase motor is better, but a monophasic motor will also serve you.

What do you use a pulley ststem... instead of putting splitter on motoor shaft .. direct connect.. i see see these type as about 50/50 being on shaft instead of pully

A reversive switch will make a good job at freeing up stuck logs.

No logs will ever get stuck, the motor he used looked like it was fucking used to win an arm wrestling competition with the hulk.

@@kadenwhiteaker he shows it getting stuck in the video. But I don't think reverse would work because if it's run out of power going forward it also won't have enough power to go backwards.

1.5kw 3000rpm is not powerful enough. I made mine with a 2.2kw 3000rpm motor. It is very fast and works well small logs but it's not powerful enough for big ones. I will be changing it to a 2.2kw 1500rpm motor. Video of mine here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rNN9lqd70963h3U.html

I Make one, but I... dont put the knife under the screw... may be this is the problem in my machine. ? the wood stuck and the motor stp ¡¡¡

Well, I recommend you put in a knife, because if the log gets stuck, it will be difficult to take it out.

@@ultramake hy ¡ i put the knife, work better but when put a logs with knot or more big the motro stop .. i think i need more than 3 hp or 3 phases ... but that its not posible .. :(

@@caligula4260 what speed is your motor? Normally you can get 1500rpm or 3000rpm. Slower is best for this application.

If the motor is a monophasic 3kV, I think there is no problem. The difference between monophasic and three-phase motors of the same power is that three-phase motors have a stronger start and can run longer.

Ya'll guys are setting the screw to low. Put it up there where it can get a good bite. at less a foot from the table

It gets very dangerous if it's high. It makes it much more likely to grab the log and spin it around, smashing your finger. Anyway, logs split most easily from the end. That's how every other log splitter works.
