I purchased one of the rollers, but got was disappointed when I struggled to find the aluminium foil you used in the video(it’s hard to get in the uk) until…. I thought “wait a second… coke cans are pretty much the same gauge… Iv just tried it and it’s turned out perfect!!! Hopefully this comment can help someone!

@@stephandeschenes I’ve seen people glue small metal rods to a piece of plastic at the spacing they want their corrugated pattern to be. Then they take thinner kitchen foil and simply press it over the sheet of plastic with metal rods

You can also use a Fiskars paper crimper. It does have metal rollers so it will crimp thinner metal. There are other paper crimpers available for a lot less ($9 versus $20.) but they have plastic rollers. They still may crimp thinner metal but it may dent the plastic rollers over time.

Great video and using the roller looks like it makes the job easier. Had to chuckle though. I worked at a sheet metal shop many years ago and we used a roller to make the heals and throats for the elbows (duct work). The roller here is quite similar to the one used at the shop with the only difference being the size and the rolling surface being smooth instead of corrugated.

I got me one of them toothpaste squeezers from Amazon (only $9.99) and save every beer can (after I drink it), cut it up with my tin snips and run it through the squeezer. I've now got more O scale corrugated metal than I know what do with. I guess all my scratch built buildings will now have corrugated siding and corrugated roofs, LOL! Just wish they made a smaller one for HO scale. The aluminum from the beer cans or soda cans is thick enough to hold the crimping without flattening. Just have to get the curl out of it which is pretty easily done. Cheers from eastern TN

When I feed the tin foil into the toothpaste squeezer it tends to pull more on one side than the other, resulting in crooked folds. When you feed it through, are you putting pressure on the two handles as you feed it through? Do you have a technique to keep the foil straight? I can't tell from the shot. Awesome technique, by the way, and thanks for sharing.

Love these videos. Could you do a tutorial on how to make a marble wall/arches/courtyard type look? Thanks!
@smolworldworkshop
@smolworldworkshop 10 ай бұрын
Oooo that sounds cool!! I’m not sure when I’d be able to do a marble tutorial though. I’ve done a marble floor finish once in the past in 1/32 scale. Basically, I just found a bunch of marble textures in the highest resolution I could find, and downloaded the pictures from google images. I then scaled them to the right size to match my tiles ( I think they were like .75” squares ) and then printed them out and glued them into place. You could always try painting the finish, but I personally find that printing it gives you very realistic results. Hope this helps!

@@smolworldworkshop Thanx! My method is using heavy duty aluminum foil, layer of white glue on light weight cardboard with the foil over it and then dragging comb teeth down the foil. Let dry and cut panels to shape. I made a video of it if you want to see what I’m talking about. I like your method because it’s not so messy and sturdier.

Are you planning on doing any full builds? I would love to see something cyberpunk from you
@smolworldworkshop
@smolworldworkshop 10 ай бұрын
I’ll probably be starting a full build next week! I’ve been kinda busy lately, and am trying to get ahead on some weekly videos. And regarding the cyberpunk idea, my dream is to make a large diorama of a Hong Kong city block, which to me is like real life cyberpunk! I’ve been working on some of the details, like the magazine shelves, garbage bags etc. and I’ve had designs of the buildings drawn in CAD since 2020. My only setback is I don’t have access to a laser cutter anymore, which I would definitely need for a project of this magnitude!
