Learn how to make minimalist sandals - HUARACHE sandals, similar to Luna sandals. Depending on thickness of the soles can be considered also as barefoot sandals. Can be used for walking or running.
If you have a problem with sweaty feet / hyperhidrosis, huaraches might be right choice for you.

That was great! They look roman, very cool. And seem so easy to make as well. Great video and great job! The made ones I think look better than the bought ones.

Hi ENN, thanks a lot for your comment and advice. I will try to make huaraches for myself from old tire. I hope I will find some old motorcycle tire. I like this video a lot kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oq2EaLV0srPJgas.html I'm really curious what will be the feeling in such huaraches made from tires. Take care!

Hi John, possibly you could try to make huaraches from old motorcycle tire. I plan to record also such video. But there are some already on youtube. Don't be afraid to try.

4-6mm soles are about the thickness range you'd want.

Hi Penelope... thanks for your comment... yes.. indeed... up to 4mm is considered as barefoot... thicker probably not, but still sometimes on some stony roads it may even hurt. Hopefully soon I will record and publish another video with leather huaraches soles this time 🙂

Where do you get your cord? I have found that not all paracord is equal when it comes to lacing sandals.

Hi Felicia, thanks for your comment. Sure, they are quite different. I bought that one in "Hobby Lobby". But sometimes I prefer also a bit thicker cords e.g. 6mm from rock-climber shop, but then also a node under the foot is bigger. I plan to try one day also with some leather straps

I'm brand new, and probably asking a reaaaally stupid question, but do they need to be unlaced and re-laced every time they're worn?
@videoinstructables
@videoinstructables 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Kristine, thank you for your question. It’s not stupid at all. No, this kind of tying does not have to be unlaced. Just don’t lace them too tight, but also not too loose. Don’t worry you will learn it quick to make it just fine. Sorry, I forgot to mention it in video.

Hi zoom US :). Thanks a lot. Yes, it is possible to remove them easily, and put on again. Just try couple of times to tie it really optimal for your foot - so it is not too tight but also not too loose.

do the heal straps come off swimming?
@videoinstructables
@videoinstructables 3 жыл бұрын
Hi John. Paracord and similar cords shrink temporary when they are wet, so even in rain it is not comfortable to wear it. But with other kind of straps it would be hopefully OK. In the case I did not understood your question, please reformulate it and repeat. Thanks a lot.

@@videoinstructables I like to run/swim but my sneakers come off at the heels & I'm too lazy/old to wear my boots. the heels strap portion looks like it would fall off in the water.
@videoinstructables
@videoinstructables 3 жыл бұрын
Hi John. Thanks for your reply. When I did walk or run in the rain - they never fall off, but much bigger problem was that such wet rubber is slippery (so not between the ground and the rubber, but rather between the foot and the rubber...) and that is very unpleasant. Plus as I said my cords do shrink temporary - while they are wet. But to use for example a leather instead rubber is also not a solution for humid conditions. I think these "shoes" are not so perfect in water like some other special "amphibian shoes".

Is it comfortable to running?
@videoinstructables
@videoinstructables 3 жыл бұрын
For sure more comfortable than running really barefooted. But definitely not so comfortable like common running shoes. A foot needs to use to it, just like to walk or run really barefooted. So even if it is not much comfortable, many would say it is healthier and more natural than using common running shoes.

As you said, if you can't cut it with scissors then it is too thick for barefoot sandals.

Hi John. Many thanks for your comment. Some time ago I was thinking again if these sandals can be or should be considered as barefoot sandals or not. In principle I said in my video that this is DIY manual how you can make such sandals. I think I did not say that these particular sandals are really barefoot sandals - but the procedure of making them is virtually the same. So it is up to you what you prefer to use for soles. I mentioned there that can be used also leather and the thickness is arbitrary, and in the comment I have a sentence "Depending on the thickness of the soles can be considered also as barefoot sandals". One way or another, for example here in Slovakia some trails and paths in the nature are quite rocky and the rocks used are from stone-pit, so wearing too thin soles can be really painful. However I checked again what thickness of the soles is still considered as barefoot, and I found in several sources that up to 6mm is considered still as barefoot. I used exactly 6mm thick rubber. Indeed, in some cases it is mentioned up to 4mm, I admit. But there are also other aspects what barefoot shoes producers say about their barefoot shoes: [I copied these sentences from some e-shop with barefoot shoes and behind hashtag is my comment] - Space: they have plenty of room for your toes. # my sandals have really a lot of space around toes - Flexibility and adaptability: barefoot shoes follow the natural movement of your feet. # I feel my movement is very natural, and very pleasant, and it does not hurt - Lightweight: they are as light as a feather and don’t weigh you down. # no problem with this too, especially those i made from leather are very lightweight - Zero heel drop: barefoot shoes don’t tilt your feet or change your body alignment. # my huaraches are meeting this condition too - Thin sole: the sole itself is meaningless if the shoes don’t match any of the previous points mentioned. # other points are met, and thickness is still in the limit And I read somewhere that barefoot shoes or sandals should not have any orthopedic arch support. This condition is also met then. Therefore I consider these sandals still at least 90% barefoot 🙂 John, many thanks for your comment once again. Some time ago I had similar comment, and back then I replied that they are maybe not barefoot then. But as said many aspects of barefoot as a term are met, so I think it is acceptable to call these sandals even barefoot. Anyway, I'm open to discussion and anyone can put his or her comment about this topic. Many thanks to you John and to all watchers. Greetings from Slovakia to all.
