Yes, it's a good idea to take photos wherever your real job takes you. I work in the film industry, which takes me to a lot of awesome or strange places. And, so far, it were my photos I snapped with my iPhone during work hours that sold the most. I have other high quality photos that I took with my professional camera, but those were mostly popular tourist sights, and selling less or not at all so far.

That’s a great real life example from someone in the industry, thank you Sarah! Especially if you’re in a location for work that you couldn’t be normally without spending a lot of money, why not! Also a good example of how it doesn’t matter what camera you have, the one you have with you is the best!

Great video, thanks. Do you advise to stick with just Pond5 and is it because of the percentage. I have read that if clips are exclusive to Pond5 you get 60% instead of 40%. Is this right?

Hi Alan, Yes I believe that is still the case. Honestly it's a tough one because to make a decent amount I would need probably 4 times as many sales. The question is then whats better; Loads more clips on just Pond5? Or less clips multiplied on various sites? My guess is the first one, plus it means I do more of the thing I enjoy which is filming rather than either spending a lot more time uploading or paying (which I don't have the money for) a company like blackbox. Overall I just see this as a way to make a bit of extra pocket money out of something that I enjoy or was doing anyway. If your aim is to do it to make a load of money, I think you'll be disappointed. Are you thinking of shooting stock or have you already been uploading? How have you found it?

Thank you for replying so quickly. I tried this about 5 years ago for about 2 months. I only uploaded 20 video clips to 3 sites and then I got bored. (I have had 1 sale) But I have more time now as I am retired. So I thought I would give it another go. It is more for raising a bit more cash to pay the energy Bills. I will be doing everything myself (no Blackbox). I enjoy wildlife/nature and so I will be probably taking more clips of that. I have got a very good camera and so quality wont be an issue, it is imagination I am short of. I am mainly after a bit of extra cash.

That’s fine @@alandimery3379 I’m still at the stage to have notifications on comments so I generally try to answer everyone when I can! To be honest if you could get one sale for every 20 videos that’s not bad! I’ve uploaded nearly 2000 videos to pond 5 and sold 80 times, some clips multiples within that. Also I can’t quite figure out what and why things sell so I’d say if quality isn’t an issue just go shoot what makes you happy. Wildlife/ nature is perfect because if you capture a rarer animal you may be one of the only people to do so and therefore possibly more chance of selling! Overall I think it’s a numbers game. Shoot rarer things and lots of them! Hope the filming goes well 👍

@@alandimery3379 I don’t think it matters overall but I generally shoot 100fps or 50fps videos that have been put into a 25fps timeline and slowed down. So it’s ‘slo mo’ clip. Slo mo just generally looks nice, plus the person who purchases the clip could always speed it up so it’s back to normal speed so you’re providing them more editing options. That said if you can only do 25fps, then do that, don’t let it stop you!

Thanks 😊 H264 mostly in either 4K or HD 👍 For stock always 4K, hopefully means the clip will be saleable for longer!

@@dimpap1370 Forgive me as I’m not an expert but I think overall H264 is good quality but not as big as pro res (422 or 4444 etc). Depends what you are using them for I think, overall though pro res is higher quality.

It’s a very difficult question as I don’t understand why most of my shots have sold over others. I would recommend; - Go on the site you plan to upload on, see if they are looking for anything specific (Pond5 does this on their contributor pages). This is also good to look for trending topics (I.E news subjects or location based subjects like events). - Try adding a unique twist on obvious topics. For example my top selling is a sunset timelapse but at a specific location (Fort Worth). Most importantly shoot a lot and shoot what is easy for you to achieve, 100 clips from what you can capture while wandering around your town is better that 1 clip from a well known far away location that you’ve had to pay to get too. Especially Sun Down as they could match the contemplative, ethereal feeling you’ve created!

You are loosing a lot off money being exclusive, pond5 is the one that sell less of the main agencies. BTW, fantastic videos!

You may be right! I’ve been a bit disappointed about the amount of sales I’m getting on Pond5 but I don’t know if I can justify the time to upload to a new stock site. Any suggestions?

@@agreatalternative What is working for me might not work for you, but me at least in Pond is around the 5% of sales, and is the one that I have more videos. I will go for Adobe and Shutter, keeping Pond with the new videos. Diversify is the key. Also black box is good option, due is a popular client your videos will appear on top of the page.
